Same here. My gaming group refused to even give it a try. Then later when they adopted Trivial Pursuit and I quickly lost interest they thought I was unreasonable for staying away when that was what was being played. At least I tried the games they were interested in but they wouldn't try Traveller because I was interested.
Christmas 1980 for me. I got two boxed games I'd asked for - Traveller and Jutland, expecting the latter to be the thing I'd play more.
I was... wrong.
(Also one of those whose first RPG was Traveller. Then The Fantasy Trip. D&D happened a few years later, but I never took to it as much. Happy to play it, but I've never run it.)
