Hammers Slammers - First Preview

They've already indicated that the Vehicle System was going to be in a different book. My point was just that a preview should entice people who could care less about the Slammers. Since the preview was all fluff.

Thanks, MongooseCharlie, for the update. Looking forward to more of it. And welcome back!

I've never come acorss Slammers before this, but the setting intrigues me, I'd like to skim the flavour text in this book before I buy it.

But c'mon SF tanks blowing stuff up, count me in

Questions on the Hammer's series

Will the box game and the Story book game be used also as part of the background of the Hammers Slammers?

Will the box game be done (updated) with Mongoose combat system?

LBH - you are in for a treat :D
I think the action in these books is some of the best SF military I have ever read; and these is a lot of blowing up things: tanks, cities and in one case even a castle!

Matt - are you going to to a special open day to launch the Slammers on the world?

Wow, i have to get this book! And in full colour :o

Will all the weapons and tanks be in this book or is it just the Slammers?

I wonder, is this a way towards a BF: evo "Hammer's Slammers"?

The stories are very good. Seminal works in the field of military SF and psychologically quite realistic though not always comfortable reading because of that. Now is quite a good time to start s the stories have been collected into three hardback volumes.

For wargaming it is similarly a good time. Old Crow do the official vehicles in 15 and 25mm scales and GZG have the figures to go with them while there are many other figures and vehicles that can be used with them. There is a set of wargaming rules from Pireme Publishing though I would expect that we might see a Battlefield Evolution version at some point.

Both Supplement 5: Civilian Vehicles and Supplement 6: Military Vehicles.

You mention these with dates - is there a bigger (public) list somewheres?

Not that I know of. Supplement 5: Civilian Vehicles is listed now anyways.

Only others I'm seeing right now would be:

Golden Age Starships Compilation August 2009.
Adventure 3: Murder on Arcturus Station December 2009.

I second all the "WTF are these Slammer folks?" comments. Looks interesting, though.

They are merc soliders that are gritty, get the job done humans. They are not robotic or static in character.

A quick analogy would be, Take the soliders protrayed from vietnam war and give them high tech equipment.

They have missions to do and killing everyone in sight is not always the best thing to do, but that's what they are really good at.

The stories do not always have the same characters in it but it is the same company, equipment and leaders who may or may not be in the story directly.

And what makes the stories so appealing is that those who have been in the military service, will recongize some situations and incidents that are common in all branches of service and combat.

Plus, Mr Drake is a good writter to boot.

This is coming a close second to my dream of an A:2089 Traveller release.

You tease me like that too often and you'll find an 'RV' sneaking up on your 30th floor fortifications
