gravitic shifter

With buy downs being so strong, even limited one or two use shifters would still be tough. Especially against the Drazi, where if they can shift you, you can't attack them at all.

- and note I'm not against using them... just very limited... I advocated the bimith getting shifters as a great way to reflect both the tech exchange with the brakiri (abbai already have one, why not more) and the bimith's supposed role as a fleet defender. A shifter ship could actually defend by turning the enemy away.

Perhaps one way of mitigating the perceived weakness of the abbai might be with gravitic shifters, or a variant of them.

The abbai seem to be high in defensive power, but short ranged and slow moving. As a result they have a problem getting to the enemy.

But if gravitic shifters were capable of moving enemy ships (for example) either 1D6 closer, or 1D6 further away, then the enemy could be brought to the abbai.

This seems to me to add individual character to the fleet without spoiling the flavour it already has, would enhance the playability of the fleet, and adds something new to the game.

Surely it's better to let each race have its own flavour, rather than spreading them all around?

Abbai have Comms Disrupters.
Brakiri have Gravitic Shifters.

Perhaps if they were called "Tractor Beams", or "Engine Disruptors", then that could be Abbai specific.

Or changing the fluff about Comms Disruptors to include something about inducing a failure to communicate between bridge and engineering, leading to the ship travelling too fast or slow?

It just seemed to me that a good way of increasing the effectiveness of the abbai without changing either the speed of the ships, or the range of their weapons, would be to allow the abbai to draw the enemy to them.

On racial flavor - all in favor of it, but they already locked the two together. The tech sloshed one way but not the other.

The brakiri got comm disruptors for their skirmish scout, only right abbai get a grav shifter on one of their hulls.

Plus they share a single Arm pl ship, but the brakiri version is just better due to better fighters. The abbai should get something for getting shafted there, or don't say the ships are equal.

Tractor beams are a decent idea, I just worry about moving figures like that due to changed angles and such when playing with a less friendly player.
