Glorantha noob question

Still can't believe they let Dobyski' loose on Glorantha, Wonder what that infamous RQ artist is doing now...

I did see a copy of Elder secrets at a convention with new images plastered over Mr Dobyski's master-pieces...
A large green frog was cellotaped over the Slarge and a pic from TORM was pasted over the Crimson bat, strangley the Wyrm scolar was left uncovered.

I actually liked Dobyski's work in Troll Pak/Gods I thought it went well with the subject matter, I think most fantasy art is dull and uninteresting and while much of it is technically well done it tends to repeat itself over and over again. His at least was fresh and interesting. Give me this over well drawn and dull anytime.

"different" would probably be more appropriate.

Interestingly, a Google search gives utterly no info. Nothing by him on Google Images either, although that might be because I have SafeSearch on...

Interesting art doesn't have to have a huge amount of detail, It would have been great to have the pictures carved into a rock face so that you got aural sculptures (Spot the music reff!).

Trolls got im, they thought the drawing were too elf-like.

You got me wondering about Dobyski, so I too googled him - this is what I found...

"As one of the many who spent long nights cursing the name of Dave Dobyski for his artistic work on some of the RQ3 Avalon Hill products I feel the need to publicly mention my recent acquisition of knowledge. It seems Dave is primarily a Graphic Designer who was working for AH at the time. Since they were too cheap to contract out for art they forced (and I mean forced) him to do the crummy art that came out since he was already on payroll. Now that he is back to doing layout and maps and that type of work his skill is quite evident. I really like the latest maps in Sun County and River of Cradles and I take back all the nasty things I said about him."

So I checked my copies of Sun County and River of Cradles, and it turns out it's true - DD was the artist. And they're beautiful too!

DD, you're forgiven! 8)
