Here we see the Australia-class cruiser as used by the New Perth Navy (Peel 0208). The Australia-class is the featured ship in Wendy's Guide to the Fleets of The Colonies which will be available from Gypsy Knights Games on January 26.

Art seen here by Ian Stead.

Designed to provide the New Perth Navy fleet with capital ship combat capability, the Australia-class is the first warship in Clement Sector to incorporate the new MaGG screen technology as part of initial design rather than to be added as a refit. Both the Australia-class cruiser and the Albatross-class carrier classes are the largest vessels able to be constructed at the current time by the New Perth Shipyards orbital facilities.

The Australia has a two thousand displacement tonne standard hull, a typical upper range tonnage for cruiser class interstellar warships (The Royal Navy, German Space Navy, and several other naval services consider this displacement size a light cruiser). The standard hull type does not allow for planetary landings however the cruiser has enough streamlining included within that hull configuration to allow for atmospheric landings if so required. Fuel scoops and fuel processors are included to allow for scooping fuel from gas giants, a requirement that allows the cruiser to be able to independently operate without the need of an accompanying fleet tanker.

First off, love, love, love how the layout imagery looks like it was designed with a naval architecture thought process in mind.

But I'm confused from the explanation here - "The standard hull type does not allow for planetary landings however the cruiser has enough streamlining included within that hull configuration to allow for atmospheric landings if so required. Fuel scoops and fuel processors are included to allow for scooping fuel from gas giants, a requirement that allows the cruiser to be able to independently operate without the need of an accompanying fleet tanker."

Standard hull deosn't allow for planetary landings, but ... allows for atmosphereic landings..." That doesn't make sense.

No, that doesn't make sense. That's an error and one I'm off to correct now.

I'm checking with the author as to his meaning but I'm pretty sure that's supposed to read "atmospheric entry" rather than "atmospheric landings".

if you changed the atmospheric landings to read gas giant refuelling, it would make a LOT more sense. :)

Has a load of fun writing these and designing a ship per book. The best part of all though was fleshing out the extra system dynamics in terms of naval power.

Incoming Intelligence Brief, Captain!

It is often said that war is 90% information and, in 24th century Clement Sector, it is no different. While most governments have intelligence agencies which provide this sort of information, the general public relies on Wendy's Naval Weekly as the premier source of naval information. Most starship captains have Wendy's Naval Weekly on their handcomps or mindcomps.

Based on Cascadia, with offices established on all the major worlds of each subsector, Wendy’s Naval Weekly has continued to publish monthly reports and annual summaries on naval development, technologies, and defense news throughout the entirety of Clement Sector since the Collapse event eleven years ago.

Wendy’s Guide to the Fleets of The Colonies is the fifth and final entry of a series that collates all available information to provide a comprehensive overview of Clement Sector navies and their fleets. Each of these books will briefly outline a system’s navy or defense force, provide some insight to how that organization functions and provide a list of the ships or in-system vessels that are reported to be in commission.

Now that information is available to you!

This book provides information on all of the fleets of the subsectors of The Colonies: Peel, Dade, Dawn, and Superior. The book covers every ship currently operated in those fleets, their doctrines, and even their uniforms. The book also contains an in-depth discussion of the Australia-class Cruiser operated by the New Perth Navy providing all of the detail you've come to expect from our Ships of Clement Sector series.
