Here's a preview of our newest entry in the Ships of Clement Sector series. This book will feature several types of smaller craft such as cutters, pinnaces, shuttles and fighters. Ships of Clement Sector 4: Small Craft will be available tomorrow (May 22).

Art in these examples are by Ian Stead.

In the first picture, a flight of Hub Federation FA-135c "Reaver" fighters chasing down a "Talons of Belief"-class gunned attack boat from the Caxtonist world of Kingston (Hub 0106).

In the second picture, you see the full view of an Atlanta Consolidated F-38D "Lightning" System Defense Fighter.

Great things come in small packages!

Gypsy Knights Games is proud to present the fourth entry in our newest line of products dedicated to the starships of Clement Sector.

In Ships of Clement Sector 4: Small Craft, Gypsy Knights Games brings you not one vessel but a total of fifteen different ships! See small craft as varied as the F-212 Scorpion interceptor, the Eagle-class ship's boat, and the Orbit-class assault lander.

Ships of Clement Sector 4: Small Craft comes complete with beautiful views of each of these ships. Each ship is shown with full deckplans and statistics to make your use of our product simple, easy, and fun.

Though designed specifically with our Clement Sector setting in mind, each of these ships could easily be used in any Traveller setting.

Get on board! Adventure awaits!

haha, no worries - I blamed traffic!

I think I'm a little bit in love with the Reaver... Just gotta figure out how and why it needs to appear in every adventure from now on...

Basically what this book does for me is transform the various small craft shuttles from "we board the boat and land on the planet. Done" to something you really want to be a part of the adventure. Lots of pictures and deck plans, internal as well as external, really helps to visualize the various craft. The winged versions of the launch and boat in particular look stunning!

Speaking of the winged shuttles, is it just me or is there no real difference in handling between them and the cylinders, rules-wise? No aerofins or anything, the wings seem purely cosmetic?

Hi Annatar

The wings on the Spacehound class cutter are not cosmetic, no. They are variable geometry, which gives a lot more manoeuvrability within atmosphere, more than simply a flattened cylindrical shape solely relying on gravitic drive to get it from point A to Point B. Wings provide lift and manoeuvrability and more importantly stability hence their use. Going through turbulence, exiting, entering or flying through atmosphere would be quite bumpy without them.

I tend to see aerofins are bulky retractable arrays more suitable for a starship or large craft rather than small craft. The rules support this as they take up a lot of dT (5% hull displacement).

Hope that provides an answer.

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured, no specific rule that says this or that, but up to the GM and the story to make the winged ones better suited for atmospheric use? (And of course the same goes for launch, boat and cutter)

Absolutely :)

I house rule this stuff and have done since early CT days.

Incidently, the Reaver fighter, ships boat, cutter, pinnace and the launch designs all have origins back to the middle eighties, when I used them my homegrown campaigns.

Actually, lifting surfaces magnify turbulence. A smooth missile feels FAR less atmospheric turbulence than a winged craft.
