Ghouls and Trolls

Ghouls and Trolls,

Having read through the Beastairy first. I was surprised to find Ghouls and Trolls were included.

It's just that I don't belive they have ever been encountered in Tir-Nan-Og in any of the slaine stories, ever.

Of course, I know I had missed quite a few progs between Horned god and Invasions.

I'm taking a Punt and saying that these have been added in the new books as filler.

As I'm pretty sure that Troll description sounds like they had walked in from the pages of 'Lord of the Rings.'

Of course if this was twenty years ago, I might of had a hard time believeing that there might be such things such as Goblins and Orcs. Now I know, they have their own section of L-world.

Personallly, if I was going to include Trolls I would of have them coming from the same place as the Goblins and Orcs. they sound like they belong together in their Tolkien realm.

As far as Tir-Nan -Ogg might be concerned. Formorians are the new bad guys ( The main bad guys of Tir-nan Ogg.), perhaps having taken the dominant bad guy role from that Goblin, Orcs and maybe Troll at some point in pre-history. These three arch-types, seem to be more at home in a Middle-Earth styled universe. Thats the way I see them, they are still there, perhaps really only comming out at night. Just not as in so much circulation as they used to be. More or less banished to their EL world waiting to be summoned.

The Ghouls, sound alot like Demonic Hit-men. Not sure about them either.

Personnally would have left these creaures out. Like, they have been over used way too many times in regular/generic Dungeon & Dragons material. You might even say that I had showed interest in Slaine's world just to get away from normal fantacy.

I feel both trolls and ghouls have their place in a celtic-ish universe. Both are featured under different names in much of european and scandinavian mythology. Am not sure about the pure celtic myths though.
Agree that the Fomorians are the main bad guys.

Trolls and Ghouls are also mentioned in the D20 core books. Ghouls are El-creatures while trolls (also being akin to El-worlds) are living in the "far east" of Tir nan Og. They are described in the Tir nan Og (d20) sourcebook.

Trolls and Ghouls were also in the D20 book.

I must check that! ( checking the other book...... No there is nothing about Trolls in that one. They are a first in Runequest. Unless I'm horribly mistaken or if they had been included in one of the supplements.)

I didn't think these rules would be merely just a adaption to Runequest.

I have noticed few other diffences.

Anyway, about those Trolls and Ghouls. I guess the rules are there to guide rather than enforce.

To be precise, ghouls are in the slaine D20 rule book and trolls are at the end of the Tir Nan Og sourcebook (in the Midgard chapter).

Right you are. ( Page 117 of Tir-Nan-Ogg.)

I guess, Trolls might well be living with the Midgard Vikings if they are to be included.

It does make better sence that way.

Just reading about them in the new book seeemed rather strange.
