I rewatched the movie last night. It would make a great setting for a quick adventure in the multiverse.
The weird tech mix makes it fit in with the Oswald Bastible/League of Temporal Adventures/metatemporeal detective settings. The PCs could be sent to find and aide an Incarnation of the Eternal Champion. Something both Elric, Mrs. Persson, and Hawkmoon have found themselves doing.
Their are four good possiblites for the Incarnation of the champion. Maria and Ferder Ferdersen are the most logical ones. However Joh Fredersen, as an Eternal Champion who has become to narrowly focused and thus has lost his direction, would make for good drama. Rotwang's attempts to destroy Fredersen and his city force changes and reforms that make the renewal and healing of Metropolis possible. He could also be a failed/corrupted Enternal Champion.
The film itself with its proto-cyberpunk style is an endless source of inspiration.
