FLGS in Riot-Hit UK Cities

Just a query about anyone planning on visiting the usual FLGS this week, particularly tomorrow, in the cities affected by the sporadic looting and general unrest afflicting British city centres this last few days.

Can you get any news concerning the following locations:-

Manchester:
- Fan Boy Three
- Travelling Man
- Forbidden Planet

Liverpool:
- Forbidden Planet, Bold Street
- That other merch store next to Lime Street Station

Unrest has also hit Birmingham and Bristol, among others: anyone in these towns, if you can check on your FLGS and let the forum know what's going on, and if everyone's okay.

Much appreciated.

Sad to hear it. When this happened in LA ~20 years ago, we knew how to bottle it up.

Hope all are okay over there.

That 3rd shop in Liverpools is Worlds Apart IIRC.

Fortunately Wigan's quiet.. Been some minor copycat incidents, so I've heard.

Hopy everyone else is ok.

Got this from Forbidden Planet Manchester's FB page:-

Adding my hopes that everyone avoids the crowds/looters etc and stays safe.

As for the LA troubles 20 years ago, does anyone remember news shots of Korean convenience store owners positioning themselves on their business roof tops? Many of those long guns were purchased when the 'troubles' had gone on for a few days. All the bargain models were sold so many shop owners had to buy high end, expensive shotguns.

There has to be an ObTrav in all this, somewhere.

Yeah, my wishes are also with everyone who has a home or business in the affected areas. That guy who had the store that had survived both world wars only to be gutted by some idiots really has my sympathy... :(

I was there helping protect a friends business. The LAPD helped us set up overlapping fields of fire. Needless to say, no rioters left their penned in areas.

This is my rifle, this is my gun.. this is for looters and, this is for fun...

Damage to your FLGS could be an issue, but I don't think theft from the shelves would be much of a problem. I don't imagine the looters include many folks that like to read, let alone play brainy-geeky RPG and war games. :D

This kind of stuff makes me think less of the human race in general. If you have something real to protest, there are proper ways to do so. Opportunistic looting and pillaging while screaming Monty Python's, "I'm being oppressed" as justification sickens me.

It's not protesting.

Firebombing a police station...I get. Just about.
Breaking into a shop to take food/money/whatever if you're poor, again, I get.

Looting a huge flatscreen TV....err...no. That's not a political or economic statement in any way. You just nicked it.

Not really an option here. Even the police are hesitant to use baton rounds on crowds, never mind lethal shot.

We'll see what happens. Dumping 10,000 extra nutters with shields and big sticks seems to have helped in london - the problem is things popping up elsewhere in the country.

I was deployed there from Ft Ord, CA with the 7th ID. Nobody ever ran over our checkpoint twice...

Hope your folks stay safe and they don't have to call in the lads from Hereford...

And, that's why it is still happening. Sometimes, criminals have to be stopped.

Yeah, you do NOT want to get those actions mixed up... lol

And your other post: yeah... baton rounds would make them sit up and take notice. It'd stop them from doing so any more.

The trouble is, though, the UK has criticised so many different countries for using live ammo on protesters that it would be REALLY hypocritical for us to do so now, even if they were minded to do so...

You won't hear that complaining about you from this side of the pond...

Good luck, stay safe.

I lived in Santa Cruz. Too bad Ft. Ord closed. Had friends stationed there in the late 70's.

Apparently, both China and Iran have offered sympathy for those caught up in the riots and requested an inquiry into human rights abuses by UK Police on the rioters. Now that's government-level sarcasm!!

... and yet it'll soon be glazed over that the guy who was originally shot that started all this was a career criminal and armed.

The government should have dealt with the prevalent hoody problem sooner, this is what has come of Cameron's hug-a-hoodie campaign.

:?

No gun was found with him...

Not what I heard on the news last night, police stated he was armed and posed a threat. A gun was found later on the crime scene, unfired.

Its a cover-up starting to form either way. Enough about that though, the only thing I can say to those in the affected areas are "good luck and hope it ends soon".

I blame gang culture, unsupervised kids wandering round at night with nothing to do, plus social networking is escalating a tragic incident.

Curfews for those under 18 are the way to go. I was jumped once by a gang walking home from a night out at 4am, the police made me feel like I was the one who shouldnt have been out at that time even though I was heading home. They also did nothing about it and had the gall to ask if I wanted to meet the gang and talk out my issues - I said only if I could beat the hell out of all them in return.

Something needs to be done about these feckless youths.
