I got to play a bit so far trying to squeeze in a game between My weekly campaign (currently cycling Champions, D&D3.5,& BESM3) I had the experience to run traveller for a group of people who for the most part have only begun in the hobby. 2 players in my group can count me as thier first GM, and one can count my Traveller playtest as his first real roleplaying experience. That being said the number one reason we did not put it in the rotation was I am running 2 of the three events and find it taxing enough to run Champions and D&D on semi alternate weeks. The one thing that excited them was one of the things that first brought me on board with Traveller (back with the Traveller book). the notion of building your character with background intact rather than just picking a class and goin. also we used the iron man rules (hey I'm a sucker for the classics) and players liked the idea of risking it all for character development. the modifier system personally reminds me a bit of d20, but not in a bad way (though i'll miss converting from hex.) 8) It still screams playtest as i was using classic reprints to fill in the blanks such as system gen, otherwise I'm pretty stoked. Especially about some of the other world ideas such as SST. well not much hard info and a bit of fanboyish gushing i'll admit but my group had fun and in the end that's what i do all this for, keep up the good work!

No kidding? Character generation (death included) was seen as a DRAW?! Wow!

Still can be, for many. Death in CGen turns CGen into a mini-game. One with a tangible reward: a kickin' character.Especially with the Ironman skill.
