First club game....

Myrm

Mongoose
Running my first club game of SF tonight....multiplayer, two side scenario adapted off King of the World with some altered victory conditions.

Two romulans and a klingons vs 2 feds and a tholian - 300points per player (ish) working out to
Condor
King Eagle and Snipe
D6 and 2xE4
vs
DNF
CA + FFB
Tholian CA + 2xPC

I would love to hear from anyone who has had to introduce new players and take note of any pitfalls they have run into - my players range from complete novices to ACtA to those who have got reasonable experience with either B5 or VaS - plus 2 who have an SFB background. I've had to do this for B5 ACtA a few times but Im wondering if there's any catches people have found for converting SFB or B5ACtA players over

Any recommendations/comments welcomed.

I would say that despite it's low page count, ACTA:SF can easily be overcomplicated if you try and do too much at once. You may want to stick to the basics at first. Initiative, movement, firing and damage resolution. Maybe don't even use Special Actions at first. So you can't reload weapons, boost shields and so on, but it will help your players get to grips with the basics of moving and firing first. Obviously, make sure they're aware that there is more to the game which you can introduce next time. If you want to start with everything, I would recommend using a crib sheet handout to prevent lots of page flipping. Be sure to let us know how you get on.

I would tend to look at giving people a cruiser each - bit more survivable and also can get to grips with flying one ship before getting too complicated

:)

I agree first game or 2 keep it simple. I usually give the newest people the biggest shipments and work my way down. Explain how movement and Firing Arcs work. Do not show them split firing at all for now, and give them just 3 Special Actions, IDF (shows how to make crew checks), AP2S, and Reload. You will need to make sure they understand reload (and through it starts to come a understanding of PowerDrain) from the get go or they will develope bad habits.

Outside of that have fun and keep it light. Snacks help too =)
