Just thought I'd bump this threat to the top. It's quite interesting re-reading it. Remember when Fire on the Water came out, way back in 2007? (Is it really that long?)

Nice to see the comments, some good advice from people. It's all stuff we take for granted now, but I get a real sense of optimism about the series and it's easy to forget that over time.

Thanks Mongoose for republishing the books - I think it has gone a long way to relaunching Lone Wolf again and rekindling some of the old magic from yesteryear.

Thought I'd bring this thread to the top again - 4 years now! In that time I think I've read the new books 3 or 4 times.

Is anyone else reading the new books all at once (ie waiting for each new release now before re-reading them)? I've decided to do that, but it's a pretty long wait!

In the meantime I've been reading the Freeway Warrior books - man those are good! Wonder if they will get the Mongoose treatment? For any bonus adventures it would be nice to see what happened in other parts of the world.

Otherwise just reading through some other LW stuff, the original books and so on.

I'm tinkering ideas at the moment. Re-read Flight from the Dark a couple of times recently. That final fight is hard. Recently looked at the Project Aon Fire on the Water which lets you take an alternative path and not be penalised for not having the Magic Spear. Interesting idea but I still prefer the original way, although I hate HAVING to have Animal Kinship - still feel awful keeping Magic Spear. However I suppose Rhygar would insist LW would keep it being the last of the Kai and the only one to wield Sommerswerd & restore the Order. I guess LW would tell him merely to try and delay any Helghast but not sacrifice himself and noble Rhygar would ignore it! Hmm... definately one of my favourite books and even 25(!) years after first reading it I STILL can't decide the best path. That is the mark of a truly awesome Gamebook series!

Did I read on Lone Wolf Wiki that the Eye of Agarash jewel is set in the Throne of Chai and gets set in the Claw of Naar like the Nyras Sceptre? Is this old news???

It's old news since you can get this info in the Story so far... of book 29 which was pre-published in S&P #87.

Is it really 25 years since FOTW came out? I don't think I've had it that long - but 20-odd years sounds right. I know I had the first 2 books, and book 5, since the 80s (sadly both have gone to the great libary in the sky) but still ...

I think I missed the Eye of Agarash bit too. That sounds rather interesting!

That would put me at 13 when I first read it - I'm sure I was younger! But no, 1984 sounds about right.

I remember getting FFtD and FotW at the same time and being blown away by them. Soooooooooooooo much better than the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks. I think the Lone Wolf series had a massive impact on me back then regarding running ongoing campaign storylines in my RPGs.

Forgot about this thread, but we have now passed 4 years and into the 5th year! And 14 more books since the release of this book.

Does anyone remember what we were doing when this first came out? I was in an old job - them made redundant, and now in my 3rd year at my current job.

It was in that year I got my cat, Sienna - hard to believe she is 4 now! I'd only been in my flat for a year then too, now it's been over 5 years. Oh and I'm older, but unlike Lone Wolf I don't age but 1 year for every 5 that passes (but man I wish I did!)

Still love LW as much as ever - don't think that will ever change. But since than got a lot of the new Star Wars book having finally decided to get the New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series - really enjoying them. And catching up on the IDW Transformers comics. I may be 30 but I'm still a geeky fanboy at heart Anyone know a single geeky fan girl? :lol:
