Fighters close escorting fighters

I know that fighters can close escort another flight, giving said flight cover from enemy flights and a point of interceptors.

Let's say I've got two flights of fighters, A and B. If flight A close escorts B, can B close escort A at the same time, effectivly giving both flights a point of interceptors?

And if not, where does it say you can't?

A fighter can't be on interceptor duty and "on support" for fighter cover. You have to choose which.

And no, you can't have 2 fighters covering each other. It says so in Rulesmasters I believe, or did we not get an answer to this?

I can't remember now what happened for that. It's ok by the rules in the rulebook, but it wouldn't surprise me if an extra rule was added to say that a flight cannot support if it's also being supported.

There was no ruling about whether a pair of fighters could support each other (that is support against fighter attacks rather than dogfight support).

I'm pretty sure it was ruled that fighters on support can't act as interceptors for fightres. Yep, found it: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=32432&highlight=fighters

Nice find Greg :)
Its pretty pointless for 2 flights to escort each othe, anyway. Anyone wanting to dogfight would just attack the other one, and they'd automatically get a dogfight against the one they wanted to attack.

If a Shadow fighter decided to attack an Aurora by shooting, rather than dogfighting, the Aurora would only be able to shoot back and the Shadow's shields would save it. If two Auroras were escorting one another, if the Shadow fighter attempted to shoot, one of the Auroras would immediately dogfight the Shadow and probably beat it in a dogfight.
