Fighter support

Mongoose
Can someone explain how this works in terms of movement?

I realise that you put them on the ships base and then they are supporting. Then they can move when the ship moves. But can they just stop at any time and get left behind?

If so what's the point in leaving them on when the ship moves. You'd might as well leave them behind, then move them up in the fighter movement phase as this gives you more options (to go to another ship instead).

I don't get the point.

If you move them with the ship, you get to move them before your opponent moves his fighters, and retain the prime positions around your ships.

Thats the nly reason I can think of.

If you don't move the fighters with the ships, and the opponent moves his fighters first, they can potentially pin your fighters into dogfights before you move them back up to the rest of the fleet.

I see nothing that says support fighters reduce the ships speeds to that of the fighters? Am I wrong or would the advantage here be that your "support fighters" move as fast as you not always an issue with slow ships but when a shadow ship goes 20" Voooom
