Wow, at the rate you're going, maybe Mike was right and you will be able to run an F&E game using all miniatures and a cafeteria floor.
Nonsense. Doing that would clearly involve an indoor basketball court
Actually, it'll take a combination of the two. You need to play it in a large elementary or middle school with a convertible cafeteria.
Using the hex sizes in the F&E LSM and enlarging proportionally for scale of ST2500 minis... you need approximately 64 feet in length to handle the minis.
I'd prefer to double that, to allow more room in the hexes for multiple ships. So that's ~120 feet in length and about 70 to 80 in height.
So you fold-up and store enough dining table to give you this amount of playing surface. Then you use the rest of the tables to hold the over-sized Fleet Control Charts with fleet boxes large enough to store your minis.
Of course that plan calls for some nice fleet markers. That's where the 1:1000 scale model market facilitates the job. The models can be placd in the Extreme, Ultra, Ginormous Scale Map to represent entire fleets of ST2500 minis.
A Dozen CAs, a dozen D7s, a dozen WarEagles, should do it for the main empires.
There is a company that made 1:1000 scale Tholians, but they are OOP. I've seen several of them on Ebay... it should only take 3 or 4 of those.
The Lyran Tigers, Hydran Rangers, Kzinti BCs, and Gorn CAs will be the hard ones as they will need to be scratch-built.
I think maybe I need to win the lottery.
Then maybe I can just get Mongoose to print out enough CAs in 1:1000 scale to cover it!!!
