Fear Test!

Do any of you use some kind of fear test when PC's meets with elements that you think should generate a "Feat Test"?

I ran "the Initiation" adventure with my players (first time we played this new MRQII :D) and when the manticore jumped from its lair as the PC's where fighting Baylis and his gang. I made they all roll a Persistence Roll, there was two PC's thay failed their tests (the big warrior with the Great Axe of course ;)) the result would be to lose a CA, but one of the PC's made a critical success so I chose to let his success turn out in a way that pulled the PC's who failed their rolls, back into action. (something like what Aragorn does to Boromir in the snowy Misty mountains when Boromir is gazing at the Ring and he lookes dazzled by the Ring)

...so they had a lucky break.

...btw The manticore died when he was to attack the downed Odayla. A mighty arrow from behind hit the manticore in its head and he fell dead to the ground (It had already taken 6 points to the head) my poor master beast did not put a scratch on either the PC's or the Storm Clans hunting god... :D

Nope, I trust to my players ability to roleplay what kind of fear their character are in.

For newer players it might be a good idea.

Also, in such a situation I would have used a group "sorting test" I usually do that whenever all my players have to test for the same thing. One of them makes a roll and everybody compares their skill to it.
This is more important with things such as perception or stealth, where one person seeing the opposition has the same effect for the entire group, having them all roll dice in such a situation screws over the percentile chance of success/loss.

one of the few books I dont have ;)

Guess I will have to buy that one too :)

Good idea with only one of the PC's to roll the Test.

True, but this could be very importaint (life of death) and you dont know how to react until you are in a situation like this, so I think a test is a good way to go (we have played since the 80's) You want the "roleplaying" but you also want something to "react" to, your PC could be this stone cool dude in scary situations, or he might not... often in Fantasy RPG it tends to get lost on the way...(not like when we play CoC :D)
