Far Trader: The trailer

So, I've hinted a couple times at a fan film I'm working on. Here's a youtube link to a trailer we just finished:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7vDOm6iOcM

We entered a prior version of this in a local competition- we didn't win, but there was lots of positive feedback.

CG was done by the esteemed Mr. Boulton

The actual series may not contain any of the content from the trailer- it was produced with just about no budget by bare amateurs. Current plans are to produce a number of web series, each series consisting of 5-10 15 minute episodes. There may not be continuity between series, but we're not quite planning that far ahead yet. We learned a lot making the trailer that we should be able to improve the look of the series considerably.

The series takes place in the TNE setting, along the trailing edge of Regency space.

Feedback and commentary is encouraged and welcome. I do, however, reserve the right to filter appropriately. I would hope people would be charitable enough to understand that the divergent nature of each group's TU also applies to the aesthetic and themes in this trailer and the subsequent series.

That said, I'm aiming for two things:
1. That it's "Traveller" enough for most fans to enjoy.
2. A film that's of a fairly decent quality.
3. Spending as little money as possible.

Some characters are unnamed at this point

Thanks for posting the link, mind if I share it? ...heh, never mind, I see you're doing that :)

Hope this goes forward, it looks promising, and definitely seems to catch that "Traveller" feeling in this short trailer.

Feel free to pass it around as much as you like!

I consider that to be quite a compliment, Thanks!

I'm hoping we can improve the costuming and props for the series, and I've got some specific questions to that effect I'll be putting forth on the forums fairly soon.

Looks Traveller enough for me. Coincidentally I am most familiar with TNE although our game was centered in Reformation Coalition. So, if you want to stress that era more then I might suggest having some (references) to ruins etc. and maybe even to the Virus.

What you used for weapons? I was glad to see that not (all) were modern day firearms/replicas/soft-air weapons like in the latest BSG! At least the most familiar models that everyone could recognize.

Clothing is pretty good, maybe some sort of body armor (vests) could be added but I don't know how much that would cost.

Video quality was at least good enough.

All in all, very nice!

I tried to stick to airsoft guns that were cheap and look futuristic. My options were limited and I was moderately successful. The gauss pistol that's featured is a modified and painted nerf pistol.

Because of cost, I'm really limited as to what I can reasonably use, but a neighbor down the street has worked as a professional prop maker, and I may hit him up for some assistance/advice.

What I'd *really* like to do is produce a gauss pistol based on the pictures from the Central Supply Catalog

My comment was not a criticism but a compliment since weapons in Battlestar Galactica were all too familiar looking. So, good job on that front, too!

There's a lot of cool options out there for carbines and long guns, but the gauss pistol is something I really need to get right, and I don't feel like I'm quite there yet.

I appreciate the kudos- I really do!

Absolutely Traveller enough! I want to go find the whole show now! Let us know when it's done. I really liked the gauss weapons. Not as loud as chemical firearms, and no smoke. The electric arcs for muzzle flash were a good touch.
