Fake covers on Amazon?

Probably preliminary/placeholder versions. Amazon's not going to spend time and money making fake artwork and I doubt they source cover-art from anywhere except the publisher. They look like first-draft cover illustrations to me.

Ummm...SotS cover, although having artwork beautiful building, really doesn't evoke the feeling of Barakeesh. And buildings as an art form are beautiful, but lack the dramatic impact of the previous covers.

TKoT cover isn't bad, I'm assuming that is an Ogron that LW is fighting.

Has there been a change in who illustrates the front covers?

It's either that or these covers are plain fake. Alberto Dal Lago (the artist for the covers of all the gamebooks and novels that we have seen so far) has been picked by JD at the Lucca Comics and Games back in 2006, so changing the artist only a year later (plus changing the cover of book 5 after releasing one) seems very unlikely. Didn't we saw a sketch from him for the cover of book 7 on the Planet Mongoose recently? I think that he was even there at this year's show in Lucca to present his work with Lone Wolf.

I'll repeat what I said on TotS: I suspect that it is in fact someone who made these covers to try to fool the world. We all saw what the cover of book 5 looked like when it was displayed on the Mongoose site. Plus, on all the covers of the gamebooks so far, we see Lone Wolf in a scene that comes from the book itself. On that fake cover of book 5, we don't see him, and I don't think that is a scene from Vassagonia. Same thing for that fake cover of book 6: what the heck is this creature that we don't even see in that book (no, that's not even close to look like the Dakomyd)? Plus, Lone Wolf (if it's really him) is not even holding the SS like on the other covers.

I think perhaps that is over the top, it may well be that Amazon simply require a placeholder book cover way ahead of Mongoose's current schedule for finalising these things

These are perhaps rejected or very early concept artwork that are by no means fixed - I think any input we should give into these might be helpful. O can't imagine Amazon would accept alternate artwork from another source but Mongoose, they would surely only get them from

For me, I have no problem with the Vassgomnian cover as a concept above the out in the air Haakon fight, I would only say the flattened looking palace just isn't interesting or scary. I think a better or wider angle, anything to make it wider and more imposing would be great

For the sixth cover, again, the concept is great, I don't think LW has to always weild the sommerswerd, the locked in a life or death grapple is good - but, you know, a darkened surroundign owuld be better, and a less hairy monster would also be great

Guys

These covers are mock ups, probably just to give amazon something to put on their sight temporarily while the actual covers are finished. The images depicted are from covers for Mongoose's Glorantha range. We already know the real cover for book five contains Darklord Haakon. As far as I'm aware, Alberto is going to be illustrating all the Lone Wolf covers (that's books 1-32, plus the 6 novels).

Fear not. I'd expect those images to change the closer the books are to release.

Fordy, giving his unofficial opinion :)

Although you claim that it is only your unofficial opinion, I'll take that as the real word from Mongoose. Thanks Richard! :D

PS: I did not forget about your interview. We'll publish it as soon as our chief-editor finds time. Real life can be so hard on us sometimes... :?

Mongoose release a lot of books and they get posted on Amazon a LOOOONG time before covers get finished. PARANOIA covers on Amazon have always been placeholders until pretty much release time - and then sometimes later than that. Don't worry guys!
