I said on another thread that I would write-up an actual combat that occurred in the last session I ran. It was an attempting mugging in an alleyway. It actually comes from the Pavis Rises. Job is an Orlanthi farm boy incautiously wandering through Dragon Town.
The set up. Jezza is pretending to be mugged by Empheles in order to lure Job into the alleyway. Hidden to one side is Mullin. He will jump out behind Job and hit him over the head. That’s the plan. No one has any armour but Jezza has a hidden dagger.
Initiative is rolled. Job rolls 17, the thugs roll 19. Job has 3 Combat Actions, the thugs two each.
Round 1.
17 Job surprises everyone by running down the alleyway to make a charging unarmed grabbing attack on Empheles. Empheles doesn’t react. Job succeeds and gets a CM. He chooses “trip” which succeeds. He pushes Empheles to the floor and lands on top of him, grabbing him around the chest.
11 Jezza scuttles to one side.
11 Empheles makes unarmed attack to try to break free. Job parries successfully.
11 Mullin makes unarmed attack on the run on Job from behind. Job not expecting it so doesn’t get to respond. Mullins does minor damage to Job and grabs him around the abdomen.
17 Job makes an unarmed attack against Mullin having let go of Empheles. Mullin fumbles the parry so Job manages to slip free, elbowing him in the chest in the process and Mullin’s fumble is 05 – numb limb. His left arm falls useless.
11 Empheles stands.
11 Jezza grabs a piece of wood and shouts “give it up hero boy!” Job merely straightens his jaw and looks heroic.
11 Mullin out of actions but gets a free action to complain “He’s broken my arm!”
Round 2
17 Job attacks Mullin but Mullin manages to fend him off. (successful attack and parry).
11 Jezza steps and swings the wood but slips. The swing goes wild, smashing into a wall and breaking into pieces (another fumble.) Job doesn’t parry.
11 Empheles attacks weakly and Job brushes him aside (failed attack, Job decided not to parry).
11 Mullin also makes a half-hearted grab at Job and fails.
17 Job meanwhile shoulders Empheles in the face. Empheles loses his balance and is tripped (again). (Successful attack, failed parry and Trip CM).
11 Jezza seeing this is not going to plan, draws a dagger and menaces Job with it. She has misjudged though. Job still has 1 CA left and she’s out.
17 Job attacks. He kicks the dagger straight out of her hand, spins and elbows her in the chest. (Successful attack and disarm CM).
Round 3
17 Job continues the spin and crunches into Mullin’s knees with a powerful kick. Mullin fails his parry and gets a serious wound to the left leg. He fails his resilience roll and falls prone, stunned for the next 3 CAs.
11 Empheles picks himself back up.
11 Jezza backs off and shouts at Empheles to “get him.” She tries the Change Range action to escape but Job decides to stop her and wins the Evade vs Evade rolls.
11 Mullin whimpers and crawls backwards.
17 Job delays.
11 Empheles grabbing his chance flees.
11 Jezza tries to escape again, Job decides to let her go.
11 Job moves over to Mullin and looks down at him with his best Batman glare.
11 Mullin cries like a baby and gives up.
----I won't swear that this is exactly correct but it's close enough based on what I remember. I had expected Job to get a kicking but it didn't work out that way. The muggers were expecting him to move cautiously into the alleyway as any sensible city dweller would. They didn't expect his heroic, farm-boy charge and lost CAs having to move around. Once I get a chance I'll also write-up the fight in the sewer with the giant rat.
