Everyone has seen. . .

I've known about this for a very long time, as I know quite a few others have. But this is actually huge news -- the website WORKS now. For probably the last what - 8 months? - the site has been 'Under Construction' and the rumour was that the entire project had been dropped. This is fantastic.

WoW! This is really, REALLY good to hear. I'm so glad this project is back on.

Straight to DVD. . . which makes me hopeful it will actually happen.

Although that is not unexpected, I am disappointed in a "I knew better, but am still bummed" that it won't see a theatrical release.

I hope this film and those which follow after that will be as precise as possible.

On another subject I am still wondering why, considering the acceptance and success of the 1st Conan movie, none ever tried to adapt the Hour of the Dragon as such. With all the actual pseudo historical and action movies now, this is truly a pity.

Not me. I've got a home theater system. . . why should I pay $8 to see it once, when I can pay $15 and watch it as many times as I want.

Sure. . . there are some movies that call for a theater-sized presentation. . . I just don't feel that this is one of them. My 56" will do just fine!

I don't care about precision, so much as I do about good.

A lot of folks don't realize that it is not always possible to make a good movie and be totally faithful to the book. . . even if the book itself is outstanding.

The written word and movies are very different mediums, and some things just don't translate well from the page to the screen.

I think if you are looking for a 100% replication of the story in film, you are going to be disappointed.

If this winds up being a good sword and sorcery flick with a recognizable Conan character, I'll be happy, even if details of the plot or other characters are altered.

I was thinking it would get more visibility -- perhaps revive to the greater public Howard's work.

Unfortunately. . . all I think it would accomplish is to stay in theaters a week or less to dismal receipts, cost the company a lot in advertising money, and guarantee that a sequel wouldn't be made.

The general public just doesn't care about this kind of stuff for the most part. Lord of the Rings was something that only comes along every 20-30 years or so. . and was largely driven by a cast that chicks of all ages found attractive. An animated movie has zero chance of drawing in that crowd. . . it would just be us diehard REH/Conan fans, and the truth is there just aren't enough of us to matter much.

Ah! But hope may spring eternal... :)
