Empires

Just got the new MRQII Empires book and it totally blows my mind. Before I delve any deeper in this thing, does it have rules for running independent kingdoms or city states? In my campaign I'm using, that would be the most beneficial as Britain is in shambles at the moment.

Awesome book and full of cool concepts and tidbits.

I told you so!

Honestly, I'm a bit floored at the extremely high quality of the MRQ2 supplements. The early editing issues seem to have been addressed and all of the books have stuff that is usable.

Empires is awesome. I'm a fan of the hidden Renown factor. The guilds and factions part is great as well.

I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly Jujitsu. There are rules for managing, in a GM sense, the macro issues that face nations. You can either roll a dice, or pick.

Not sure this answers your question though.

I was thinking primarily of managing kingdoms that are little more than simply a fortress with a bunch of supporting peasants or independent walled cities trying to survive. I'll read into it more tonight .

Empires should handle what you're after. Just scale back some of the numbers, or confine your city-states to a single country (with no larger scale interference from outside) and it should work. Even a small fiefdom can behave like a very small country and the Lordly Year rules will help you with an assets-management metagame.

Yep, got this one yesterday with the Necromancy book, and this looks very promising indeed. There's an awful lot of useful stuff crammed in this book, I think. Even if you didn't use the Empire rules directly. But I think using them all will give loads of adventure ideas and interesting events that happen around the PCs (the bigger picture). And of course, you can go to war with these rules.

Out of curiosity, have people been creating their favourite empires from history, fiction and RPG campaign worlds (not necessarily RQ ones?) using these rules? I thought it would be fun to share some of these? I intend to create a couple for my homebrew world which uses Freeport, and couple of others as well. Dunno what the copyright deal would be for sharing these on this forum, for example?

I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet, but I intend to scale it down to use it for independent cities, small kingdoms and Eirish (Irish) barbarian tribes.

Hey guys,

I just created Jharkor (Elric) using the empire rules, I'm not quite finished yet and would like some feedback.

Jharkor
MIL 9
LAW 19
SIZ 8 (1.5million)
COM 14
REL 6
WTH 12

MIL DMG 1D4+1 - 1D6+1
INIT 12

Commerce 50%
Dogma 25%
Espionage 56%
Govt 38%
Warfare 60%
Culture 29%
Diplomacy 63%

Jharkor is a civilised monarchy led by Queen Yishana, who despite her mischievous ways, is adored by the general populace. Her taste in men, however, is... questionable. The Jharkorian outlook is neutral and the country is stable, though it pays particular attention to the borders it shares with Dharjor, always on the lookout for raids and attacks from that quarter.

The campaign is set not long after Elric leads the attack on Imryrr, but just before Yishana hooks up with Theleb K'Aarna and he and Elric become enemies.

Any thoughts? room for improvement?

If you can lay your hands on the 1st Ed RQ Empires, Loz has helpfully provided Stats for most of the YK. They are based at the time of Lormyr's war of independence though.

No problem Damonjynx. The table within has Vilmir,Jharkor,Ilmiora, Tarkesh,Purple Towns,Lormyr, Filkhar,Argimiliar, Dharijor and Immryr/Melnibone.
Shazaar, Pikarayd, Dorel, Oin and Yu are all absent for some reason.

The southern lands missing, particularly Oin & Yu were probably formed by Aubec when he forged new lands from Chaos (The Master of Chaos, The Singing Citadel).

I'm guessing those tables would be similar to the ones in the latest version which are for the YK 600years or so before Elric becomes Emperor.
