Elric Question

Can anyone point me in the direction of a quote from an Elric story that relates to the Blue Assassins? I've only read the "core" books and don't remember any references to them.

I'm writing them up as a cult and if I'm happy with the result, I want to pitch the write-up to Nick for publication in S&P.

They're mentioned in a Rackhir story called 'To Rescue Tanelorn'. Can't recall which collection that's currently in, though.

Ah. Thanks Loz. That would be 'The Singing Citadel' I believe. The only damn Elric book I know I've read, but can't find!

Rackhir presumed his lover, Sorana, had been slain at Yeshpotoom-Khalai.

'Seven years ago, that had been, and he had heard her scream when the Blue Assassins had crept into the Unholy Fortress, pledged to murder evil-makers.'

To Rescue Tanelorn, Chapter Three

Thanks Havercake. If that's all there is, no wonder I don't remember it! :D

Here's something that just occurred to me. Is Yeshpotoom-Khalai(The Unholy Fortress) the fortress monastery of the warrior priests of Phum?
I know that in a previous Chaosium edition it was presented in an altogether different light(Sea Kings of the Purple Towns).
What do you guys think?

You'll have to forgive me if there's something that makes it quite clear in the writings but I also cannot seem to find my copy of The Singing Citadel. :? :(

No, its not a monastery. Its never made clear what it is, and as you say, there have been various interpretations over the years.

The warrior priests of Phum's monastery is Tumbru (hence Knights of Tumbru) in Phum itself.

I don't mean to pick over this Loz, but I thought that The Enclave of Tumbru was your own invention. I don't recall it mentioned in any of MM's books, although I admit, it's some time since I've read them and I may be hazy. :)
If that is the case, and Sorana was a warrior priest of Chaos, then it is entirely possible that the Unholy Fortress might be the bastion of said warrior priests.
I still cannot find my copy of The Singing Citadel and thus the context of the above quotes and any further references are beyond me at present.
Of course, was Sorana actually a warrior priest important enough that the Blue Assassins would penetrate their very stronghold to assassinate her?

The Knights of Tumbru are one of many names Moorcock drops into references to the Unknown East when talking about the warrior priests. I didn't invent the name, he did - I just sited it in Phum and connected to the warrior priests.

If you want Yeshpotoom to be the monastery in your campaign - go for it.

What you have to remember is that MM throws lots of cool sounding names into stories that never get explained, never get described and are left to the reader's imagination.

Which makes his work both unbelievably good and at times frustrating! Now where was that reference...
