How do I make it so that the middle section can rotate? I am thinking about doint it that way but do not know for certain.

Thanks in advance.

try a brass rodd holding the forward and aft together, not 100% bit i think 5mm rod will aloow the centre to rotate

There's two main ways - the quick and dirty (which I did), or the slightly more involved.

All I did was drill into the connecting faces of the front and back, and connect them with brass rod. Then the gravity section can fit over it - there's a hole in it which fits nicely.

Or, if you want it to spin more smoothly, do the above, but put a section of slightly larger brass tube in the gravity section, and run the brass rod through that.

Be careful when drilling the front and back; if you use a power drill, it thens to heat up very fast!

Just use a variable speed drill, one that is controlled by how far you squeeze the trigger. Take it slow and you'll have no problems with heat. I've drilled out holes on about 50 ships now amd not one got even slightly warm.

If the metal is getting warm, then you have either a dull drill bit or your RPM's are too fast. Pewter, being a soft metal cuts better at a slower RPM and will cut a cleaner hole closer to the size of your drill bit.

I use a roofing nail as the size is just right and a 1/8" bit makes a perfect size hole. I also replace the plastic stems with a roofing nail and then glue a washer on the bottom of the base. this gives the whole thing some weight to the base and keeps then from being knocked over. I also cut the nail short to reduce the center of gravity.
