Probably won't work. There are ways for trolls to get past Any ban (fluctuating ISP's from dial-up providers, anonymizer software, etc.) Not worth the effort... just let everyone choose to react or ignore such posts as they wish. Maybe he'll get bored and annoy someone else...

But at least it will allow us to identify which troll we're dealing with, and distance those who've merely forgotten to log in (which wouldn't happen anymore) from those trolls. "People" are always braver when they think they won't be found out...

Wouldn't work either - I have seen it on another board where they tried to get rid of an undesired poster; he just made other accounts (free e-mail addy and/or fluctuating ISP from dial-up providers or even internet caffee's) and posted his junk under a different name.
So unless they make getting an account a LOT more difficult (like ID required), there's no way to keep out the trolls (who are quite willing to spend the effort in their crusade to annoy other people), so all it would do is lock out the "real guests" - not the desired effect.

No, the best thing to do would be locking posts that create numerous personal attacks (as they have just announced), and maybe censoring sindle postings that are Really insulting (like in the B5W forums - there the webmaster can edit a post and replace non-topic related insults or really bad language with a -censored- marker).

And the absolutely best thing is for the rest of the people here to nicely tell such posters how they think about it, then ignore any further attempts to start a insult match.

The best that can be done is to ignore anyone who is starting the insults.

A number of threats have been locked when they became too antagonistically.

The first few posts on the EA book and national traits were understandable.

Constructive criticism is welcome but belaboring the point has become a real pain IMHO.

The fix has been stated and Mongoose and Agent 1 have apologized.

Use the material as you’d eat a fish: enjoy the meat and toss the bones.

Chill folks, it’s only a game that is made for us to have fun.

So, ignore the problem children and enjoy the game.

BTW: anyone seen KDLadge around? Wonder if he just had enough of the way the board was going and quit trying. I hope their aren't too many people like that. Hate to think the trolls are really scaring people off. Or simply making it not worth reading the boards. Overall I would say they are getting a bit better with the lock downs and deletions.
