Dumb question about painting engine exhausts

OK,

So thinking of trying this on my 2nd fleet batch.

Thinking either red>orange>yellow OR blue>light blue>white

Dumb question, do the lighter colours go to the centre or the outside of the exhaust plume?

No, sorry. I prefer white fading to blue, over yellow fading to red. Does that make more sense?

As in I like star wars engines :P

I get what you mean, but not all Star Wars engines are blue, Tantive IV, X-wing (prob other fighters as well) all had non blue engines

Thanks for the advice, pale colours in the centre.

I mean the important ships, like star destroyers, or... well, that'll do ...

They don't have the a good onscreen 'batting average' though.

OK, back on topic...

WHen painting my exhaust lets assume I'm running from white at the centre to pale blue to dark blue at the edges.

Should I paint the whole nozzle dark blue, then the inner bit light blue then the centre white ?

OR

Paint the whole thing white, then the outer edges light blue then the very outer edge dark blue?

Basically what's the best method to get the colour gradient sorted...
