Drinax | Upgrading Ports

Hello Gamer Nation!

I'm prepping to run the Pirates of Drinax and have a question about Upgrading Ports. The Intro states that there are three ways to upgrade ports:

1) Making contacts and completing patron missions
2) Spending money in the port on improvements, upgrades, repairs or bribes.
3) Donating captured ships and equipment

However only the first item is addressed in the campaign materials that I've seen: each planet has a patron mission that can upgrade the port one step towards Haven. Am I missing discussion of how spending money and donating equipment impacts standing with various planets?

After all these things must be built so how difficult is it to get these things ordered or built to order?

And how much secrecy would you need to avoid getting targetted because of your order for a space station?

A lot of options for upgrading ports and helping them out are strung throughout the campaign adventures - however, if your players come up with a clever idea, by all means reward them. This is a true sandbox campaign, so let your players play around with ideas!

Kteiroa in chapter 3: Ihatei!

Any character with Streetwise can identify Kteiroa as a possible pirate Haven. The characters can upgrade the port through the following actions:

Attitude - Action Required
Suspicious - None
Neutral - Visit the planet, including the ihatei camp and leave without causing problems
Tolerant - Spend Cr. 10,000 at the starport.
Friendly - Invest Cr. 100,000 in starport facilities.
Haven - Invest MCr10 in starport facilities.

Most storyline missions also improve your standing on one of the main worlds in question - The Demon's Eye lets you improve your standing on Tech-World, for example.

The best thing to do is to tailor the prices for upgrading ports to your campaign. If the players really, really enjoy stealing ships and squeezing every last credit out of them, then set the prices to hundreds of MCrs. If they don't want to bother with much 'on-screen' piracy, then the prices should be just enough to drain their excess cash. Use the ports to keep the players nicely poor and desperate!
