Dragon Warriors - Exotic Weapons

Hi,

Another excellent S&P article from Carl Walmsley!

There's just one slight issue I noticed; Carl's "Hand-And-A-Half Sword" seems to contradict the official "Longsword" (aka "hand-and-a-half sword") description on the Magnum Opus Press web site. Other than that, nice work Carl!

What are your opinions on the new weapons? Will you use Carl's optional special rules or just the armour bypass & damage ratings?

Regards,

John.

Ah, I was searching Magnum Opus Press. Thanks.

I read it and have given it some thought. I don't plan to use anything from this article. Too much complexity, in my opinion. One of the reasons me and my players left more current RPGs was to get away from complexity and more towards story and character.

I'm sure there will be plenty of gamers that will appreciate these optional rules, but for now my group will be steering clear of them.

cheers

Yes, personally I'm wary of the special rules, too. I would add some of the other weapons (raw stats only).

Good to know the material is being used. :D

I realise that DW's appeal lies in its simplicity - the more complicated rules are very much optional, and included for those who want to differentiate between weapons.

On another note, The Betrayal at Desolate Mountain adventure was written with a party of around six characters in mind - there being seven of us in my RPing group. I imagine it would be a real challenge for a smaller band. Hope some of them made it out alive!

Ha, well, my players are really enjoying themselves, but are having a hell of a time trying to escape from Desolate Mountain. With Leofric and Ser Pailor with them their party size is five.

They are hiding in the waterfall cave on level three and keep making forays into the dungeon. They've yet to face Gulruin again, but they've managed to kill Captain Morthak and a lot of bandits. Last night was their third session in this adventure and they made it to the first level, got attacked by the hell hounds - failed to find the way out - and are now, once again, holed-up in the waterfall cavern nursing their wounds.

We love this game and thanks for the great adventure.

Good stuff! Sounds like they're having fun - albeit running away, recovering from injuries fun!

Have they encountered the trapped ogre? If they can free and 'befriend' him, he could really tip the odds in their favour come the next fight...

You know, I've mentioned the trapped ogre to them, but not directly. The old man that lives with the rats (I can't remember his name right now), said something along the lines of a "fey giant trapped in the chamber to the south", but the PCs are scared to investigate!

I'll update in this thread how things go for them. Wish them luck!
