Well what if you had already benefited from the SA? You had CBD and it was third ship firing at you that caused critic? What if you had already fired weapons with restrictions applying? Making it work like you suggest will cause a considereble chaos. Perheaps it should be stated 'loose all benefits from SA' rather then 'no SA'...

umm, it's a turn based game, so things happen in their turn, you can't retrospectively adjust damage becase a Special action has been lost 3 ships later for example. so i don't see how it causes chaos really?

That's the magic of the activation order. You choose when the ship goes. There becomes a strategy in using SA's and activation order just in case something happens. A ship with blast doors closed logically would want to activate later - makes a little sense too; they're plugging holes and aren't so concerned with firing. Similarly, a ship with CAF and only a single target would want to go sooner so as to use the benefit before it gets taken away. Think also of the movement SA's and how if they're important to your strategy, you'd want to get them done before trouble comes knocking and you might want to target your enemy's ships which you think are trying something tricky.

your player played it correctly. he lost the benefit and also lost the downside if he hadnt fired already.
same applies with CAF. about the worst thing to get on a CAFed ship is the no SA crit, esepcially if you surrounded a target with something hes not CAFed on then suddenly he can fire all guns.

I'm with Katadder, a no SA crit causes instant loss of benefits and restrictions of the SA.

The restrictions go with the SA, been that way for a while.

There is certainly an argument for it being changed, but not so much based on logic. What's the logic behind losing CAF, my guns magically retarget on something else? How was that caused by an enemy ship? At least CBD makes me think the other weapons are firing, just firing in 'intercept mode' like old B5Wars...or like we see some of the B5 stations guns do.

All the SAs are strangely arbitrary...

I don't mind the SA's working weirdly. It's a comprimise between rule and playability and it effects everyone the same. I think it's not a big problem with the game - Shadows Fighters and Big vs. Little are what keep me up.
