disruptors = energy bleed???

I've no complaints about my lack of initiative at all. I decided to take a certain type of fleet (basically big and bigger guys!) to see how things went. My opponent chose a more optimised fleet. We both 'spent our money and made our choice' so if I want to gain initiative parity, I have to fight for it! My opponent was clever enough to maintain initiative and in so doing, invariably created better firing positions. He won the first half of the battle, concentrating most of his fire on downing 2 cruisers, whilst I made some mistakes in spreading my fire more. I hadn't used plasma before and being a bit wary of overkilling, I failed to kill at all! I rallied in the second half (including a spectacular Boost Shields throw for my Dreadnought!) and some of his damaged ships were destroyed or became critical, whilst I lost another cruiser. We actually ran out of time with me only having 2 ships left, a very healthy Dreadnought and a slightly damaged cruiser, whilst (I believe) my opponent had 1 very healthy Cruiser, a slightly damaged cruiser, a badly crippled cruiser, a badly damaged frigate and another in good shape.

It was an excellent game and I think I learned quite a lot BUT (to get back on thread) at no time did I feel the Klingon Disruptors were over-powered at longer ranges, or at all. I may have cursed them a little (ok, maybe more than a little!) but I didn't entertain that they were over-powered.
