Dilgar vs. Earthforce EY (Call to Arms)

Democratus

Mongoose
In high orbit over Demeter, the greater part of the Dilgar fleet has just finished overseeing colonization operations. Earthforce was not amused by their methods of removing the previous tenants and has sent their entire fleet to punish the monsters and drive them from the world.

Sceanario: A Call to Arms
Priority: War
Points: 7

The size we rolled for this battle was a suprise to us. None of the players has this many ships in their entire fleet. Therefore, we are sending everything we can. Earthforce had no other battles this turn so his whole roster will be participating. I fought a battle at the gas giant of Krish V (see earlier post) against the Centauri and sent 7 points Raid. Everything else in my arsenal will be in the battle.

Forces:

Earthforce:

Orestes Battleship: Winfield Scott, Alexander Suvorov

Nova Dreadnought: Chronus, Poseidon, Charybdis
Hyperion Heavy Cruiser: Delhi, Richmond, Khartoum, Veracruz
Hyperion Missile Cruiser: Marrakesh

Artemis Escort Frigate: Crescent, Hawk, Swift, Wyvern
Hyperion Assault Cruiser: Houseman, Guan Yu, Vostok, Erinyes
Olympus Gunship: Chase, Victoria
Oracle Scout Cruiser: Hind, Spartan, Curran, Malachi, Mulhill

Tethys Missile Boat: TLP-532M, TLP-217M, TLP-323M
Tethys Laser Boat: TLP-441L, TLP-632L
Hermes Transport: HTR-388, HTR-521
Raider Modified Freighter: The Read Scream
Beta Wing, Nova Starfuries x5

Unknown how he will organize his forces.

Earthforce is bringing all its iron!

Dilgar:

Command Pentacon:
Mishakur Dreadnought, Incorruptable
Tikrit Heavy Cruiser, Reaper
Omelos Light Cruiser, Ruthless
Ochlavita-Ki Command Destroyer, Demagogue
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Rifle

This will be my heavy-hitting but slow pentacon.

Strike Pentacon:
Targrath Strike Cruiser, Omen
Targrath Strike Cruiser, Slayer
Ochlavita-Ki Command Destroyer, Dogma
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Hurler
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Thrower

This is my fast-moving strike squadron. Every ship has a speed of 12+ (the Och-Ki has a refit) and can move to exploit opportunities which arise.

Scout Pentacon:
Ochlavita-Ki Command Destroyer, Discipline
Jashakar Vi Scout Ship, Whisker
Jashakar Vi Scout Ship, Rogue
Jashakar Vi Scout Ship, Assassin
Garasoch Heavy Carrier, Fury

This pentacon will hang back and use scout channels from relative safety. The carrier is with them because I want it to stay out of danger and it will need to borrow the CQ of the squadron to guarantee a safe Scramble! order on the first turn.

Assault Pentacon:
Wahant Heavy Assault Ship, Terror
Kahtrik Assault Ship, Footfall
Rohric Assault Ship, Zha'Zo Gate
Rohric Assault Ship, Broken Shore
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Crossbow

This pentacon is full of ships I brought to the campaign in case of planetary assault missions. But I'm bringing the kitchen sink on this one, so here they are. Maybe they can capture a ship or two. The frigate is there to fill out the pentacon numbers.

Torpedo Pentacon:
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Archer
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Longbow
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Needle
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Chakram
Jashakar Tae Torpedo Ship, Hurlbat

These are the final dregs of my fleet. I wish I had a command destroyer to lead them, but I'm fresh out. These guys will be in the vanguard, hopefully drawing off some fire as they close range. If they get close, 20 AD of bolters isn't an insignificant threat.

20 Torhun Dartfighter Flights
8 Thorun Torpedofighter Flights

This represents all of my loose fighter wings that didn't fight the Centauri this turn. I wish there were more Torpedofighters. With so many escort ships in the human fleet, their role will be highly dependent on opportunity.

The Dilgar muster everything in orbit over Demeter. Fighters on bases are Dartfighters. Counters are Torpedofighters.

I don't know who is going to win. But I'm certain that it will be bloody as hell! Most likely this battle will leave the Centauri sitting pretty from an economic standpoint. His fleet is largely intact.

Setup:
Initiative Dilgar.

Earthforce set up in a battle line along his side of the board. The formation was very similar to his fleet from the last ambush, only it is larger and facing me. An Orestes anchors each end of the fleet, accompanied by a Nova and an Artemis Escort. The center has a Nova and multiple Hyperions, again with Escort cover.

Earthforce finally gets a fight where they can face the enemy!

I set up by putting the Assault pentacon front and center. These ships are all Hull 6 and have lots of hit points. They are also substandard in combat. So they are going to try and draw as much fire as possible.

In the very rear center is the Command Pentacon, with the Torpedo Pentacon in front. To the right of this is the Strike Pentacon and on the far right is the Scout Pentacon with carrier in tow.

At least one ship in the Scout, Comand, and Strike Pentacons have Crew Quality 6, giving them a minimum of 8 on any CQ check.

The Dilgar, as always, are calculating in their deployment.

Turn 1:
Dilgar Initiative.

I pass with my 5 pentacons, but Earthforce just moves his 5 scouts in the backfield.

So I then move out with the Assault pentacon, making it a big juicy target.

Assault pentacon puts on a party dress and asks the humans to dance.

Then I have the Scout pentacon move slowly forward on CBD, having the carrier give a Scramble! order (atuo pass). I then decide to try something different. I move the five frigates in Torpedo Pentacon forward and have them all give a Manuver to Shield Them! order. Perhaps I can save my Command Pentacon some grief. I follow up by moving the Command Pentacon forward, placing one ship right behind each frigate - and give a CBD order just to be sure. Finally, the Strike Pentacon moves slowly forward (trying to avoid close range for this turn) and gives CBD orders as well.

Earth fighters keep the Dilgar fighters at bay for the moment. But they are straining at the leash!

Earth does a general advance, placing as many of my ships in the boresights of his Lasers as possible.

Several of his ships take the bait and line up my Rhorics.

Then the shooting happens!

TBA...

See if i was earthforce i'd send in one fighter and hold back for a turn waiting for a more sensible sized battle where losses can be easily managed. But hey Cry havoc and let fly the dogs of war.

The centauri player must hope there will be a bloodbath. Because there might be a lot less dilgar and humans left in the campaign after this battle.
