Design Mechanism

Design Mechanism's a new company set-up by myself and Pete Nash following the cessation of the RuneQuest trademark with Mongoose.

We have the license from Issaries (the license holder) to produce both RuneQuest and Glorantha material. There's more information on our website (www.thedesignmechanism.com) which explains who we are, what we're doing, and what it all means.

Mongoose have rebranded RuneQuest II as Legend, which you know, but RQ 6th edition (because there have been five previously published editions of the game) whilst being compatible, will have some marked differences.

It's great to know that Glorantha is in good hands. However, I'm interested to know more about the changes to the MRQ II system that you will be introducing. Given your past involvement with MRQ II, have your thoughts on the design of the game changed over time? What is the philosophy behind the changes that you will be making to the system?

Ah right, thanks both for the info.

Major differences between the two versions? Don't suppose you could go into details?

It would be completely inappropriate to discuss such things here on the Mongoose boards. Design Mechanism has its own forums where such topics can be debated.

Point taken. I'll definitely hop across to the Design Mechanism boards and check out any advance information about the direction that you guys are headed in.

A pity the Design Mechanism forum software is the most wretched forum design I've ever come across. Really, really un-ergonomic. I hope they overhaul it to a better system some time soon.

Its not great, but we're hoping to institute something far better in the near future.

For now, though, it does its job.

Why not go with a PHPBB forum like this one? (just, other theme ofc). Is it a strict demand that it can log-in from facebook/twitter, which I dunno if phpbb can do yet.

The forum system comes with the site management software, so its a reasonable stop-gap. In the near future we'll be migrating the forum over to Moon Design's integrated phpbb site, so there's little point in us creating a separate phpbb system specifically for Design Mechanism.

It seems like design mechanism forum requires a Facebook or similar account to access it.
I don't have (or want) any of those sorts of accounts, so I guess I'll be unable to post there until you move to the other forum.

I've posted and asked about the rules changes between RQ6 and Legend. I'll cut/paste as appropriate

Have you tried logging in with your Googlemail account? That's how I access it. No need to use FB or Twitter if you don't have such accounts.

All forum software is inherently flawed - it's the constant need to keep going back and looking for changes and finding whereabouts in the thread you last got to ...
