Deneb Sector

Ss-P Vast Heavens

:arrow: There are but two worlds here in the edge of the Great Rift, both TL3. One is non aligned, one is an Imperial Client State. Neither can be reached from Geniishir, but can through IN Deep space calibration points/ refueling depots from Kamlar-O.

:arrow: Therefore, a planetary write up is all that is required for these two worlds & the entire subsector, which is not part of my thesis, and may interupt eventual writing for the Sector.


I will take a break and examine as much as can be gleaned of the socio-economic issue arising from the Jonkereen Rebellions/ Uprisings of 1083 & 1102. In this piece, one can make a few logical presumptions where Deneb Sector is concerned & OTU History coincide:

The 4th Frontier War dates are 1082-1084, concluding at the Battle of Two Suns...

The Jonkereen uprising/ rebellion #1 is dead center of the 2nd year of the 4FW, and tensions are high. Looking at the Nobility across the Deneb Sector, and looking back at the Spinward Marches, it is not hard to imagine it came at a bad time for the Jonkereen to launch, and charges of treason and revolt when a common enemy at the gates was present (the Zhodani & Outworld Coalition #4)....reprisals and suppression were in a word, *harsh*.

A second uprising occured in 1102 in a time of post war uneasiness...clearly the Jonkereen had not *learned* their place the first time, but undoubtedly had learned that timing was everything...and methodology. There are no tales of mass executions, genocide, or gulag-world deportations...so, something *different* happened, right? :twisted: :wink: 8)

The GDW Regency Sourcebook hints at the outcome of both uprisings came as the disestablishment of the IMoC in 1135...
And therein both rebellions lies the unspoken, unwritten, but inferred epic tale of a people downtrodden who bucked the Imperial system, eventually got *heard*, and became a minor Human race power in the post Collaspe poltics of the Deneb Sector afterwards...

How it came about has its seeds in both the 1083, and 1102 "revolts", and the possibilities of a good plot hook or half dozen...

While everything herein that I have posted up (Since page 4 of this Thread) is plausible, and is based on canon sources, it is not in print, and thus is not canon... :wink:
 
Liam, thanks for the time and effort to go through this sector and show us all what can be done with some thinking and using the various books (TMB and Dilettante primarily).

I really enjoyed your analysis of the sector. Even if the actual book doesn't use a lot of your ideas, I think that any campaign that moves into Deneb will definitely incorporate them.

I think your Technology block makes a lot of sense and can be used in just about any campaign. There are bound to be a lot of worlds that feel their technology is "good enough" once they hit TL11-13. Gravitics are developed enough to be in common use and J2-4 lets you get just about anywhere you want to go. Meson weapons probably scare the CRAP out of most people and might be enough for a large group to go "we shouldn't go any farther in that direction." Oppose them with the New-Shiney-Widget crowd and you have a good political split in any society.

For a lot of random data, you were able to make very good sense of most of it.

Thank you old friend. I would also like to thank the members here on these Mongoose Boards for allowing me to finish without major interruptions and questions. While it is true the appearance of the 3rd Imperium as monolithic and vast can be daunting, this is but an aspect of the whole as viewed in Deneb.

Politically yes, there are major Blocs of Nobles & Megacorp Bureaucrats who make things happen here, but I hope my analysis shows they do not have to be 1-2 dimensional straw men. Yes, there are some outright villains and despots who rule in the Sector, and there are (thanks to the RSB) those who champion for the people of the Imperium, and adhere to its ideals.

I hope someone reading these pages can come to this conclusion: One can be a TL12 Hegemony Bloc hawk, and champion Democratic reform, & strong Borders, just like soemone might be an Advance Technology Ahead Bloc, a Monopolist of Starship-manufacturing, and be benignly neglectful over the technological manipulation that led to the Jonkereen tragedy.

Any combination of the major power-political Blocs is possible, to include the zealous, uber-patriotic Imperium is always right crowd. Having played in Several Nobles-only campaigns over the years, I can assure you the multiple avenues make every Noble encountered different, and where they come in commons one day on one issue, may put them at odds with their fellows on another.

One of the fascinating discoveries I made in this was the Gl'lu race, and how they too are playing "the Imperial Game", having several air-breathing habitable worlds unde their ownership as colonies. I would think a Gl'lu Noble would be very much like the Vorlon in environment suits, although more corporeal than B5's alien species.

As for advancing the MgT book on Deneb, I do not know whether or not any of these commonly found ideas will find theire way into it, but I take hope they might, because if I could find them, then those working on the project certainly could!

Yeah, and probably a little worried that the insanity is catching... :)

Liam: any chance of the whole thing available as a PDF sometime? For some reason the forum version does my eyes in... (strangely).
