Davco/Navwar

I have ordered the VaS rulebook and am looking at both Davco and Navwar models but it is hard to find pictures for them. Does anyone have pictures of them or know where i could find any? Is there much difference between the two? Thanks.

I've got some of each, and I tend to find that Navwar ones are better casts.. but i'm sure there are some on here that have bad experiences. bound to be, by laws of average!

I find both can be useful though, as they tend to have slightly different designs, especially on smaller ships, so you can easily represent different 'groups' of ships in the same class, for example when they have different arments or torpedo layouts.

for photos, I have access to Japanese ships, Italian ships, and my Brother's unloved British ships that just got sprayed grey. Also, I'm just painting up some WW1 Austrian and Italian ships. If any of these would be of any use to you, i'll get some online. However, I suspect if you trawl through this forum there are probably some pics floating about.

Wishbone is correct theres are a good few pics about.

I tend to favour Navwar as they seem to be slightly better quality, but when alls said and done, they are a wargaming miniature, and as a gamer (as opposed to a modeller) "In my view" (just my view) as long as the model is representational and identifiable from other similar models, the finer details I can live without

Which is why I'm happy with 1/3000 scale, as theres a bigger range of ships available in that scale

Hi

The Italian ships in the victory at sea gallery (see gallery on mongoos website) are by Navwar

I also find that Davco are slightly less detailed, so would go for Navwar.

I would also recomend Tumbling dice for there Aircraft (make of aircraft oin gallery)

Navwars mailorder is a quick turnaround as well, just a pain you can not order diret from the website and have to post or call the order in

Hope this helps

thanks to everyone who replied. I faxed an order to navwar yesterday so should have them soon. looks like the minis will turn up before the rulebook does even though i ordered the book last week, but it won't make too much difference as i am going away for a few days so even with the postal strike they will hopefully both be here by the time i get back (emphasis on the hopefully part of the sentence :) )

The navwar minis in the VaS gallery look very nice. Are the aircraft with the ships from tumbling dice?

Thanks once again for everyones help.

Hi

Yes the aircraft are from Tumbling dice, the bases I made from thin wire (used in flower shops for arranging flowers) and standard GW round bases with vallejo sea painted on (then drybrushed)

I just ordered some WW1 stuff from Navwar, hopefully will get mine this week, they usually only take a few days to arrive.

(just ope its before Friday as another stupid postal strike!!!!)

thanks, do you use one aircraft mini to represent one flight?
Good luck with the post, i think the strike is on a thursday this time but the post always gets delayed for more than one day. My Top Gear magazine should have arrived last week but because of the last strike i still don't have it!

Yes - I use one aircraft per base with the tumbling dice,

Navwar Order - Posted on Thursday with cheque and order arrived on Monday, what excelent service!!!!

same here, sent a fax on sunday and turned up this morning! Looks like i'm going to have to use the S&P VaS articles for a few days ntil my rulebook arrives. :)

they look fine, though I'd buy each class of ship from one manufacturer... They seem to work to slightly different designs. my Littorio from Davco for example is wider than my Navwar ones.
