Hello all

I have updated Darkness Rising - hope you enjoy :D

usual place (its is now 95 pages - 8.65 MB)

this update includes:

Some rules clarifications - skindancing, shadow rules

revised FAP (Armegedon style)

new battle level ship for Psi Corps and Anla'Shok to fill gap

Fleet tenders / support ships for most races and a few other ships

amendments for a number of ships -

some extra fluff

new scenario - "sacrifce"

extended and revised timeline (mostly to fit with LC's novel! )

general tidy up but hope once i get to grips with publisher will improve the look :)

as always comments and suggestions and general thoughts appreciated :D
 
Weeeee. Wish I could join in the fun, looks like there will be a lot to be had! Good story as well, although you might want to break up your time line to make it more easily read. I kept having to reread portions and found my self skipping around because of such large blocks of text.

You also misspelled artifact :P

Where did you get the name Chloe? I like the idea of a Ms. Morden, as well as her and Capt. Ivonova working together. I don't really care for the name Chloe, though. But that's just my personal history and has nothing to do with the character.

Can we expect more fiction coming out of this? The little snippets were nice reads.

I also found it odd that you had so many bore sighted missile batteries. Missiles, by their very nature, are guided weapons, enabling them to turn and maneuver to reach their target. To limit their angle of fire really seems to contradict this idea

edit: btw, don't take these comments as nitpicking. Well, they are nitpickish, but I only do so because I really like the whole idea and its a very good read and I enjoyed it
 
I have a look at the timeline and see if it can be better laid out - and check artifact - there are a few other typos that I have noticed now its uploaded! :oops:
Chloe - - ahhhhh I just like the name -
fiction - well I may do some more - perhaps Ken will....... :) Have to eb abit careful gievn recent events re fan fiction - however I love fluff - its one of the things I really enjoy in game supplements. Be ncie to have a bit more official stuff in ACTA?
Hmm the Missiles - well I saw them needing the firing ship to guide them into the target - - may not be the best idea.................

When the Main conflageration ends my thoughts at present are:

the ongoing Drazi - Centauri war
Earth dealing with increasing demands of the League about the "colony"
Many of the Shadows beginning to return to slumber - although some still remain with Chloe.
what happened to the Vorlons........
Several of the Ancients become more active with the absence of the Vorlons.
The Breakthrough Project - A Legacy of the Thirdspace incident - a series of linked scenarios when an experiment gains access to a more familiar universe...........and how the intrusion is stopped.
Posisbily doing something with the Orieni (as the Religious Caste try to stir them up) and some of the other races (Hyach, the race to coreward of the former Dilgar Imperium)
maybe more about the mystery ships spotted near Omelos

Hmm - the only thing with that is the Raiders should not have too complex tech - I see them as using basic equipment and what they can get from "patrons" and/or salvage?

now maybe a unique ship or group could have that access? Perhaps they just seem to be raiders.............
 
That would be a cool idea, something like flying the enemies colours, but how would you represent that stealth or maybe a new something...
 
wahat about a missile frieght? using rockets? say boresight, or front arc, cargo pods replaced iwth missiles. make it raid or skimrish, range 30. meant to stay out of srange. hull 3 or 4, and no other weapons.
 
I chatted with my locals about using a truly beefy set of converted civ freighters.

Take the tanker... put pop open doors on the three forward booms and put in basic beams, a narn or drazi sold beam... so 3 AD beam, bore sighted. Pop open doors on the back as well to add two thrusters and a single weapon back... either a beam on rear bore or a plasma gun - 1 AD, AP, DD. That would have some extra speed, maybe a turn (extra thrusters farther off center line) and and extra hull point maybe. Call it skirmish.

Take the corporate freighter and have the front pods open to front exposing twin barrels in each (say 4 AD of plasma cannon or linked pulse), take the middle two boxes on each side and have them pop a door top and bottom, and either do four barrels per box and call them pulse or two barrels per box and call them plasma - so 4 AD, AP, DD or 8 AD, TWL to a side) back boxes open rear with extra thrusters. Skirmish again or boost damage/hull and run a beam down the center cylinder front and back and call it raid (1 AD just beam bore sighted front and back).

Anyway... that was what I thought a raider would want... unexpected speed and all round fire for crippling convoys... and the tanker is the sneaky up on ya looking for cover then opens up the beam on the engine before you can run... with enough speed to catch you for a second shot if needed.

Psi Corp could use the same tactic... give them psychic crew or something... the theory being they try to influence the crew of their prey to remember the attacking ship as a freighter with different markings so they can hide among a variety of convoys.

Well - as for raider ship ideas, the dilgar war era raiders work nicely as additions, as would the 'fire ships' from the Masked Malice campaign.

The orieni war era also contains a couple of unusual ships, which I'm putting in for earlier missions:


Corsair - Standard raider ship, basically a sunhawk forerunner armed with forward plasma cannon.

Brigand Attack Cruiser - Corsair's big daddy.

Looter Support Cruiser - weaker weapons, bulkier hull and different fighters but basically the strike carrier.

Pilum Command Ship - Same hull as the looter, fitted with C&C capability. Technically used by centauri privateers rather than raiders but they all ended up as the same force once the war got going.

Ruffian Cruiser - a bit more of a q-ship type. Take the looter (or strike carrier for modern day) strip off the jump engine and fit an additional fighter bay and a honging great boresight laser. Nowhere near as well-armoured as a battlewagon, and without the external rapid-launch racks of a strike carrier (without a jump engine it has to sneak about in system)

And yes, being able to substitute modified freighters into a convoy would be a nice trick....
 
My mate & i were discussing the idea would be cool if you could have different ships instead of just the Nova, if you wanted to have Centauri style raiders it would be a centurion. Different stats would be cool for differring races would cool. Maybe ships available for raiders could be based on ISD so they could only use the older hulls & be modified. It just about would be a book on it's own. Raiders : Piracy it's a crime
 
Derina / Shadowqueen was doing one - I did make up a Centauri Corsair fleet list for it but be interested in seeing more of those by locarno24

Narn Privateers
Dilgar Mercenaries (upto the war)
Drazi Raiders
Brakiri Corporate Intervention Assets
