Darkhorse Comics: reprint vs. new ones

I'll be the fool who defends the Hyperborean story. I know that I'll come off as an idiot, but I liked the ideas in the tale. The Hyperboreans may not be true to REH, but the story sure rang true to me. The story was nice and cruel and the tragic end seemed right to me. I'm by no means a Conan scholar as I've only read a few of the original stories. Let the rocks be thrown.

I liked the Hyperborean story, too - it is IMO not really Conanesque and not true to REH, but is good in its own right. And at least degeneration is a classical REH-element. Another poetic point is the tragic death of Iasmina.

I liked it too- it is the rare author who allows their hero to fail, fall and recover sadder and wiser. Nice to see someone who knows that the worst experiences are the usually the ones that teach us the most- that sometimes the villain is too powerful, the mountain too high and just survivial is an accomplishment itself.

I also liked the last story in the cycle the best- "Blood for Blood". The opening panel with desolate landscape, the fnal realization that even vengeance was in fact a meaningless gesture- those failed were still failed, those murdered were still dead.
