Dark Passions: When?

Hey there.

You are pretty much correct. We are just waiting to see the results of our first print run (Magic of the Young Kingdoms), and then we'll be full speed ahead with all the books you are waiting for including, of course, Dark Passions.

Thanks for the update Matt. I am both happy and sad that Mongoose is returning to outsourcing its printing. I hope it works out for you guys.

Question: Will the reprints of CthulhuTech rulebook be done through the outsourced printing or from existing stock?

I'm curious about that, too. I've been waiting off to get EoM and the RQ GMH in case there are still bad print runs out there. I've heard so many different complaints that I've lost track of which books were prone to it. Anyway, are these two books going to be reprinted by the outsourced company?

Okay, this makes no sense to me. I admit, I'm new to Mongoose products, but I've been gaming for over a decade and into printing for four or five years. How can there be "print problems" this often? Let me confess: I have not received a faulty product, so this isn't a direct complaint, just a curiosity to me.

I understand that Mongoose opened a press of their own and then recently re-outsourced the printing, but how can there still be so many problems? And why would all three presses have the same problems? And, if there were only two presses involved, why would a company go back to a crappy printer? Maybe technology is different across the pond, but it seems that printing from PDF files with computers is vastly available to even amateur authors. Just hire a new printer. Find a website like www.lulu.com that works with PDF files and use them. If they are too expensive, try renting facilities from a university or local publication house now that you have people who can ostensibly use the machinery. I'm not upset and have yet to buy a book from the internet (I just shop at comic stores and things), but it just seems like no company based on printing books could survive when they hire crappy printers.

Hire a new company to print your material. Period. Is that impossible? Is it out of the question? Are there no other partners available?

I don't think they've finished outsourcing it again yet.

LBH

But, I would assume they went to a new company, yes? I hope so. I love the games here and hate to see all the bashers and ne'er-do-wells leaving complaints. We should all live in harmony and quality rpg products.

Mongoose purchased their own printer last year. It had problems. They are now in the process of returning to outsorucing their printing. The problems related to the printer they purchased last year alone.

I am not sure this makes sense. Operating a commerical quality printer is not easy, especially on the scale Mongoose required.

That is what they are doing by outsourcing their printing.

Well, that's good to hear. I assumed there were quality problems with the initial printers as well, which led to the desire to print in-house in the first place. I am sorry to hear the in-house venture didn't stand up. And, like I said, I'm not complaining. I am coming at this with a philosophical question: I work in publishing, and if the printers don't do the job, we get new ones. Quickly. We don't ship faulty products. We just ask for apologies from the clients (in my case students) and send out high quality products a little late but with the expectation that the new printers would be better in the long run anyway. I was simply curious why books would continue to be shipped when someone knew there were severe problems with the printers. Granted, my publications only circulate to 20,000 or so subscribers (and I have no idea how many books Mongoose produces, so I won't comment), but I just want to see things turn around for the poor kids buying the stuff.

They are indeed - in fact RQ GMH is being printed right now.

Might Dark Passions be available to pick up at the ACTA tourney on the 8th of March.

I am afraid not - even if it came out of the printers in time, it would still need to travel from the US.

Hi guys,

Just to let you know the decision has been made to delay Dark Passions until the reprint of the main rulebook is back in stock - we anticipate that this should arrive in April.
