Dara Happa stirs

Mongoose
I am undertaking a project. Eager to get my regular group into MRQII and Glorantha I plan to run Dara Happa stirs. This will not start for some months. In the meantime I will (very) slowly put some notes together.

Before I begin in earnest, I wondered who here has run the adventure? How was it?

I need to convert some of the professions, for character creation, to MRQII. This should be easy enough, but haa anyone done this, any lessons?

I will also need to convert the cults and associations too - I have not yet looked to see how much work (if any) will be required here?

Finally, if I was to read one book about the Babylonian civilisation, can anyone recommend one?

Antalon.

I'll let others who've played the campaign respond on your basic questions, Antalon, but on this one...

Finally, if I was to read one book about the Babylonian civilisation, can anyone recommend one?

...I'd actually recommend that you get hold of copies of 'Fortunate Succession' and 'Glorious ReAscent of Yelm'. Neither are about Babylon per se, but they are about Dara Happa and formed much of the deep reference material for the campaign. They're available on Drivethru as part of the Stafford Library.

Reason I recommend these, and not a text book on ancient Babylon is because Dara Happa draws inspiration from many middle eastern sources - although, thematically, Babylon is the obvious reference point. The mythology of the region though, is extremely detailed in both GRoY and FS and well-worth the investment of time.

Good luck with the campaign! Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Loz.

It will be a challenge - epic in scope. But, with Cults out soon, everything necessary to run Glorantha game will be available.

Of course, when I finally see the new Pavis Rises I may be sorely tempted to move to that instead!! Ah, the choices and so little gaming time :(

Actually, it looks as if only the Glorious Reascent of Yelm is available anywhere.

Do I miss much by not having the Fortunate Succession?

Antalon.

The Fortunate Succession is a lot clearer and easier to read than Glorious ReAscent of Yelm. It also contains a lot of information about the rules of the different Emperors.

Would you be mssing out if you couldn't get it? Yes, because it covers the period of Dara Happa Stirs. Would your campaign suffer if you didn't have it? Not at all, you can run the campaign effectively with the published Mongoose RQ books.

The good news is that Jeff and Rick (Moon Designs) have promised to make the other Stafford Library books available again.
The bad news is that they have been promising this for quite a while now (I suspect that (quite rightly) new HQ material is taking precedence).

Otherwise I agree with soltakss. Anything that you need from FS is as already covered in DHS. (Now if you were looking to run a 3rd age DH game it would be much more important...)

Thanks all.

I think I'll spend my current cash on pure rpg books and one real world history.

If Issaries publish the stafford library in full, I'll certainly look into it.
