Cryo Sleep campaign for Traveller

Hello everyone,

Ok I am starting the process of designing a new Traveller campaign. I intend to set it from Earth, and use the near stars real map for the star map.

Now as for tech I am going to base most off of the Space 1999 genre, and also use other shows/movies as: Silent Running, 2001, 2010, Outland, Earth II, Aliens, Aliens II. I am going to rely heavily on Space 1999 though, using their space ships: Eagles, Mark IX Hawks, SuperSwifts and other ships based on such ship designs. Now for long range travel, crews will go into Cyro Sleep to travel between the stars.

I intend to populate the Earth Star system with all sorts of Bases, Colonies on many different moons, planets and asteroids. There will be many different orbital space stations as well too. Also United Earth forces have begun the process to Terra Form Mars as well too. Now man kind has started already to spread out into the stars as well. The nearest system Alphi Centauri , with it's 3rd plantet being 2.5 times the size of Earth has been Colinized heavily and under going the process of Terra Forming the planet to making it almost totally Earth like. Now the UE space exploration services have spread out to many (yet to be determined by me) star systems, with bases and colonies in many of them.

Now players will be a crew on a UE Explorer, and they will travel to new star systems via Cryo Sleep, in larger Carry-All Explorers, that will have (2) Eagles, and (2) Mark IX Hawks as mission spaceships. Now my plans are to have each player ( I have 5 players in my gaming group) create two characters each. I will also create (5) NPCs to also be apart of the crew too. Along with that I will be using Robots that will look like Robbie the Robot, and controlled in part by loaded programs into each robot and part by the ships AI. I am planning on have (10) of these Robots onboard the ship doing all sorts of jobs, especially while the crew is in Cryo Sleep.

I am looking for any ideas, or help that folks might be able to aid me with.

Thanks,

Penn

<bump> a shameless bump to bring it back to the top and hopefully someone will talk about it or comment on the idea...

If you're going with the Space 1999 genre, why not use ships like the Satazius (from The Last Enemy) or the alien bomber from War Games (which may have been the same ship model as the Satazius, I can't recall) - those would probably be good for the long range explorer/motherships.

Oh yeah, and don't forget all the ships from the spaceship graveyard in the Dragon's Domain episode too (including the Ultra probe).

Sounds fun
2.5 times the size of earth (assuming your talking radius) means 1.25G at the surface (assuming stimilar density) - you could get a few ideas out of that (medical emergencies, colonists having to go home again, development of space based habs).
Whats the speed of the interstellar travel..if its STL and they are going into Cryo, then every adventure will probably start with a bunch of logged messages (assuming your using message lasers or some such) and whats changed (If your American, think of the reaction someone who went to sleep when Eisenhower or Kennedy was president waking up to find Regan, Bush or Clinton). - good roleplay opprtunities there.
you can make it a little better with FTL being something like one parsec per month, but the main thing is theres no backup..the players are IT and its going to be a long time between resupplies and repairs.

Well the time to travel from star to star will be simular to what you have stated. a kinda FTL that takes time. One parsec per month sounds fast, I was thinking more like one parsec taking 3 months travel time.

The Steller Explorer: StarScream II will have a crew of (20) men ( 5 PCs, 5 NPCs that the PC's help create, and 10 true NPCs that I created) plus there will be 10 Robots. The ship will also have (2) Eagles, (2) Mark IX Hawks, and varrious probes, and remote explorers. There mission is to explore a system that has one planet that appears to be Earth like at 1.5x size of Earth.

In truth the world is very much Earth life will all sorts of life on it. Also there are two Inteligent life forms on the world that come from a common ancestor stock. Think of HG Wells Time Machine, with the differences between the Eloy and Moorlocks. The Eloy have a culture and know how to make tools and are weaker, but can still defend themselves. The Moorlock are under ground dwellers, and strong. They are the mutants that survived after that worlds Nuclear Wars. They view the Eloy as food.

That should be fun for one and all...

There was a BBC2 series, Star Cops, that might be of interest to you.
