Crafting items

In the core rulebook on page 42 it has different rules for crafting items than on pages 27-28 of the A&E book.

For one, core rulebook talks about dividing the amount of critical range (skill 81% gives 8 points) among AP and HP, at max +0.5 times the original AP/HP amount. In A&E you can choose for example High Resilient Enhancement that gets you +0.5 times the original amount of AP.

Other thing is the whole crafting process. In core rulebook with one critical success you can choose the benefit area for the item. In A&E there are these Task Rounds and Item Quality tables that in effect require more than one skill check roll and also gives the possibility for more than one enhancement.

Which one is correct?

This is one of the things I have trouble grasping since I come from a d&d background. Everything is written as though it's in stone and must be backwards compatible. This system isn't that rigid.

So when I searched today about crafting the response Pete gave was like a bolt of lightning. Doh! I was trying to decide how long a set of armor might take to make. The best answer is: As long as it takes to make sense.
