Counters

I'm trying to decide whether to get BF:Evo or VaS and i was wondering if the BF:evo rulebook contains counters, or if i can get some from somewhere else, otherwise it is expensive to see if i like the game because i would have to start building two armies before ever playing the game, where VaS cintains counters, so it is easy for me to try the game out.

There are no counters currently available for BF:Evo. Perhaps some ambitious soul will work on that in future (not me).

I do know GF9 makes counters for BFE

look below

as far as that goes, I am very new to this game as well.

pick up a bag of crappy plastic toysoldiers at your local dollar store or whatever the cheapcheapstores are called good enough for a few trial games and then you can give the toys away when you find out you really like the game:D

Not quite the same. The "Counter" for VaS (Victory at Sea) are paper tokens/cutouts of all of the units in the game. Mongoose provided them with the game system because they are not producing miniatures for the game.

I would just do this, and have a couple of games using the FREE rules download, to see if you like the game. The rules handout is easily good enough to get a handle on the game and see if you like it. Then see if you want to get the game...

VAS is good and whilst its £20 for the rules and counters its DIRT cheap to buy mini's for, you can pick up a fleet for not much more than £10 inc P&P.

4mm on the soldiers won't make much difference for testing it out, but how do i know the stats for them? the card comes with the models don't they? or are they included in the basic rules download too?

thanks. due to my restricted budget if i manage to get the advanced rulebook i'm not sure if i'll be able to afford the models too! i may end up using my airfix models for some time - better buy one of the lynx airfix models next time i'm in town!

Give it ago, its a great game :) Lots of fun to play, and if you have a load of models close enough to scale just use those. When you have some spare cash you could then move over to the MGP models if you feel like it.

Or go for crazy idea: Switch the scale. Depending on with how many people you are planning to play with(ie are you planning to play in tournaments etc) this may or may not be viable idea.

With 10mm(or even 6mm) scaled models you could afford 2-3 armies in less price than 1 standard sized army. You would need to scale distances a bit but apart from that it would be workable solution.

Of course bad side is that you can't play with most of the BF:Evo players but if you are planning on playing with reqular gaming group who also think idea is good then it's workable.

You would also get advantage of a) HUGE selection of stuff b) effectively bigger gaming board allowing you to play bigger battles(and cost isn't forbidding this either).

Just a wild thought  . Was concidering something along this line for 6mm but problem is mainly this 6mm will be used for another game and for that I need to base the infantry into bases with multiple infantry model per stand. Not suitable for BF:Evo then.

not a bad idea, especially as i don't know anyone near me who plays mongoose games, so i only ever play against mself anyway - takes some of the fun out of it to be honest, but i'm trying to convince my dad to play (might happen one day :) ) but i think i'll stick with the airfix stuff as its roughly the same model, and i've already got a load of airfix models, on he other hand most are WW2 so if i'm going to get modern troops etc i might as well look around, but i don't think i've ever seen any model troops that are smaller than 28mm.

i'll keep it in 2010 or whenever its meant to be, and whilst the helicopters will be the right ones (roughly anyway) and eventually the tanks, the rirfles won't be! Fist technology on a Lee Enfield anyone? Now thats what i call product development. What i may do is get used to the rules, save up and then replace the infantry first, so as i phase out my airfix it will all be pretty much right time-wise, but some will be airfix, some mongoose. Main problm is how to raie up helicopters i may get.

could anyone give me the dimensions of the challenger II model please?
