"Coordinate Fire" Special Action

So we were driving back from the Toruni and despite numerous hours of gaming, still talking ACTA . Hurtling off at a tangent from our dicussion on the pros and cons of the Gaim - we started discussing first Dynamic Squadrons and then the possibility of other races having something similar?

So this is sort of what we were thinking: (but Guys chip in If I have misrembered)

"Co-ordinate Fire", Crew Quality Check 8

In the heat of battle a senior officer can sometimes see beyond the individual engagements and understand the big picture. They order the nearby ships to follow their lead and target a vital target in the enemy fleet.

Effect: If a Ship with the Command trait successfully makes the CQ check for this Special Action, they order all ships within 6" to act as a Squadron for the purposes of firing. The ship executing the order and All friendly ships within 6" of the command ship must fire at the designated target fighter, ship or station and may not fire at any other target this turn. If the Ship loses the Command trait, or is skeleton crewed or destroyed, the effects of this Special Order are immediately lost.

It sounds kind of cool. Could be a bit of a two edged sword if the first ship to fire destroys the target, it would mean a lot of wasted firepower. It would be a good trick to spring on something big though.

My immediate thought as an EA player would be a Command Omega and Chronos escort squadron doing this.

Well, the rules are still valid.

Matt has stated that new supplements will be coming out.

If we lean on him enough (and do some playtesting) then I don't see why it couldn't be added via one of the supplements.

It seems most like an sa that lets you create a dynamic (although, shooting only) squadron for one turn. I think it is a cool idea, and it doesn't impinge on the uniqueness of the gaim too much as it is only for shooting. You could say that other races, apon seeing the effectivness of the gaim dynamic squadrons, were trying to do their best to mimic it.
