Considering Drazi for my last order

Fleet box and fireraptor, minus the fireraptor. Waste of lead...

Most of the Drazi ships are variants of two hulls, the Strikehawk/Warbird and the Sunhawk. Strikehawk and Warbird are very similar, only difference is the Sky Serpent sitting on top of it (I want a real catapult to fling it off!) so really you can use the same minis for them. And the Firehawk is very similar too, so again you can use the same mini, I doubt your opponent would even notice as long as you paint it differently. All the other ships worth speaking of are Sunhawk variants.

So to have an effective Drazi fleet you need probably 8 Strikehawks or Warbirds, and 4 or 5 Sunhawks. Some firehawks if you're a perfectionist and don't like using the Warbird mini fo them. Anything else you get free is a bonus but not really worth paying for.

The Fireraptor has a hard time flying straight and getting boresights with that huge chip on Burger's shoulder. ;)

Just kiddin' Burger.

Some people dislike it for many of the same reasons they dislike the Drazi altogether - light on Damage and heavy on boresights. I personally dig the Drazi and think the Fireraptor is "okay". I normally run one between two Sunhawks in a squadron.

Also, if you are going to run Claweagles at all, make sure you are at least going to get 2 - one will probably get iced before he reaches combat. That is, unless you are playinga bigger game and can pair them up with a Jumphawk for "surprise" assaults from the flank.

a) Primarily boresight weapons on a War level ship means you won't have enough FAPs spare for init sinks, unless you're playing at War level
b) Slightly below average weapons capability for a War level ship
c) Slightly below average hitpoints with no extra trait defences (Dodge, AA, inteceptors, GEG etc)
d) Horrible mini

(a) and (d) are by far the biggest reasons. But even if not for them, it is below average in every area except turns.

Bry is right about Claweagles too, and yeah I forgot about them. Though, they are best used as a "distraction" than an actual ship-killing threat. People get very scared of them, they are not actually that effective, but people are so scared that they are almost alwys primary target.

Fireraptor is pretty pathetic stat-wise and most of your fleet will leave it behind. Stormfalcons are more than capable of taking its place. If you get one it's probably only going to be used as a bullet magnet (mine always seem to attract a supprising amount of fire). I'd advise getting the fleet box plus at least 4 Sunhawks as the many variants of the Sunhawks/Warbirds will give you a huge number of options for your fleet.

As already said, if you pick Claweagles get several of them. I tend to use 3 plus a Jumphawk.

Drazi desperately need their initiative sinks. Whatever else you choose make sure you have a good foundation of Sunhawks and Warbirds before you get the big stuff.

Well the Fireraptor is poor at the moment but you never know for the future what changes may come so if you like the model and want a War PL choice I'd say go for it :)

So, with the boxed set and a Fireraptor, I'd also add:

4 x Strikehawk
6 x Sunhawk
2 x Claweagle
3 x Sky Serpent blister

This gives you a good number of Sunhawks to use as variants such as the Jumphawk and Eyehawk and the Strikehawk is a great ship to bring a few extra fighters into the fray. It also gives you loads more options at lower PLs and extra initiative sinks. This would give you 9 Battle FAPs and you could add just a touch more if you really wanted to go for 5 War FAPs.

Yeah, remember what happened with the S&P Troligan ;)
Then remember how long it took... then remembe it was banned from every game ever. Oh well!

Yeah but that was because Matt statted it and published it with no other consultation and even the best players need ships they create checking for balance issues.

I would hope that any fixes this time have other players checking on them...
