Coming of Shadows and August

Have you been to Decipher's LotR boards? They are far and away the most nitpicky boards ever. If it isn't something Tolkein wrote in his books, letters, back of a napkin; then it isn't right!

Sounds about right. I used to work in a science fiction/fantasy bookshop (that sold games and comics). That crowd contains some of the worst pedants I have ever come across (not all of them mind but the Star Trek crowd put me off ever picking up anything associated with that hack brand ever again).

One of the things most people probably don't realise is that Spelling, Gramatical and Typographical errors are actually COMMON in written published material, even where the writers come from an English Language background. Even in Language textbooks there are errors.

Its a GAME you bought, NOT a book. I almost wish Mongoose never picked up the B5 licence (being a Judge Dredd Player, its hardly helped that licence get new product). What would you prefer, more games designers or editors working on a product. Because at the end of the day you will be the ones paying for their time.

And if I ever catch anyone marking errors in a library book I will kill you....

Regarding errors, this is something that I'm very much aware of, and probably have the highest tolerance for. I've seen first-hand how you can go through an entire manuscript, think you've fixed all the errors, and then go back a day later and find a slew of others that you missed. Its part of the reality of publishing that not everything will be perfect all the time. My complaints are based more on what information is presented and how it is presented. Again, I was trying to be as constructive as possible, but I admit that I opened up with an unnecessary jab.

As for whether or not Mongoose should have picked up the B5 license, I'm actually extremely happy that someone was willing to take the risk and make an RPG for B5. I'm also very happy with the fact that the followup products in this line have been full color and extremely competatively priced. That's why I was hoping that my comments would come across as mostly constructive. Like Mongoose I'm sure, I want this to be the best game possible.
