Classes

It amazes me that people keep saying that Conan the RPG promotes multiclassing. I just don't see it. Maybe it's acceptable in very rare cases, but it is rare. There are even feat bonuses if you stick with your racially prefered class!

If you add to that the fact tha the barbarian is clearly superior to all other classes it just gets ugly.

It does promote multiclassing. First of all, there are absolutely no XP penalties for multiclassing as in D20. Sure, sticking to one class is nice for the extra feats is a nice sort of carrot, but that only morks for the first 10 levels; so you might as well multiclass your other 10 levels anyway.

The characters in my campaign are only 4th level, and 1/2 of them have multiclassed. I guess if you look at it from a min/max perspective maybe you wouldn't want to multiclass. But I don't think that would be in the spirit of the game.

1) Conan switches from a penalty for multiclassing out of your favored class to a bonus for sticking with your favored class. That is a hudge incentive to multi-class and a far superior system IMHO
2) many races have more than one favored class and the Hyborian's even get favored class: any. IME hyborian characters multiclass like rabbits doing the nasty.
3) considering that most of the classes are of the "warrior archtype" it makes multiclassing fairly painless as you bounce from full-BAB to full-BAB

Remember, as we have been discussing in this thread, multiclassing is supposed to leave you weaker in certain areas than your single-classes brethren. Multiclassing = trading power for versatility. Conan significantly reduces much of the opportunity cost assoicated with multiclassing which makes it much more attracitve.

If you add to that the fact tha the barbarian is clearly superior to all other classes it just gets ugly.
Respectfully I must disagree

Hope that helps.
