Civilian Tanker

I'm looking at it each and every way... and I wish yet again that Mongoose would publish building instructions for things that just don't look right.

The tanker is the one that looks like it has three main hulls, but nothing seems to line up right. It doesn't help that the prongs are getting in each other's way... anyone have an easier way of doing this?

The best way I can get it to fit is to dry fit the bottom two hulls together, lining up the drilled out hole, but I can't get the top part to sit flush. Is there something I'm not doing right?

dark angel, I think you hvae it right as best I can tell. I bought the civilian box set a while back and the freighters caught me off guard with their construction. I remember not liking the flat plate on the bottom at all - ruins the look of the tanker & freighter. My plan was : I was going to do was quite a bit of modding to mine. Cut up the bottom with a razor saw so all the cargo modules are separate, and then mount them all with wire (probably paperclip, small gauge) to the bottom of the main chassis, and then mount the chassis to the base pole (a hollow brass tube for these) with a wire bent into a T so the top of the T is along the underside of the main body of the ship and the bottom goes into the tube.

That was my idea, anyway, haven't followed through with it yet, I'm probably as bad as LBH as far as painting goes. I'm really behind! :oops:

yea, quite agree, i bought a civ box months ago to play the escort etc, scenarios, put them all together bar those damm tankers, still in the box bar one.
if you mess around a bit you will find that (if youre lucky) two bottom hulls fit snuggly on the centre section(the square bit) then the command section needs cutting in the same place to allow it to drop in on top. then mess about with the prongs till they all sit straight.
i think you gotta realise that the pics we see of all the models are allways perfect ones, not the ones we get :(
 
Actually, not really much better at all. I was looking at the difference last night (broke one of my Mongoose bases and had to snatch my Slann's base for my other Victory), and it doesn't exist. I would hazard they get their bases from the same manufacturer.

Get some B5W bases if you can...
The metal is far superior.
 
B5W? I got the metal bases that Mongoose supplies, but it is horrendously expensive. 2 bucks for a single stand? No thank you. If I can get flying stands from GW for cheaper and don't have to wait for shipping, then I'm sold.

the small and large GW flying bases are about a 1/2 inch bigger around than the mongoose stands. Don't know if that was on purpose or what.

I'm glad you like the Ember Orange, Derina Ramsey:P You might like Khador Red Base too, if you have issues with Blood Red.

I do that every Saturday at my LGS :P We have a primarily Warhammer based population, and those into spaceships were drawn to Battlefleet Gothic. When that went down, people look at Babylon 5 and try out a few games. In two months, I have 7 people who want to play.
