Choosing a Firezone

Can you choose a fire zone at the limit of your range to hit an enemy you can't reach?

For example, the MEA shoot 20". Theres an EFTF soldier 21" away.

Can the MEA choose a fire zone point 20" away and since the EFTF soldier is within 6" be affected?

THanks.

Yes, as long as your shooters have LOS to the center of the fire zone and part of the target. You can set the center of the FZ to be at 20".

As well as everyone else getting the extra space. ;)

It is 6" radius not diameter right? (Must get my book back from the store's display)

OK to try with a bit more detail....

No the range is whatever the range is: technically a Fire Zone can give you 26" BUT the FireZone and at least part of the target has to be in LOS.
Remember that the USMC and EFTF can extend their FZ to 30" but only if the previously mentioned restrictions are met. That Line Of Sight thing is key.

Also this is kind of limited to small arms ( Assault Rifles, SAW's, Machine Guns ) Big Bore stuff like the main guns on tanks typically only have a 1" or 2" blast radius unles they introduce Mortars and arty later.

Somebody fix me if I am mistaken.

You got it Capt. Nemo. Tanks really are not too effective with the Big Bore unless targeting size 3 or better. Otherwise the damage would go to the model that would take the 1st DD and would created a small FZ, normally 2" around that model.

A Tank's main gun still generates a 6" fire Zone, it's just that in most cases you can select a large target in that space without having to allocate dice normally. But if you were firing the tank at infantry for example, you'd still allocate to the nearest models as normal.

If you want to nick pick the details. Yes, but in effect in has a 2" radius. Why? Because it creates a FZ with the main gun, that targets with the main gun DD the closest model to the tank in the zone. Then it creates a 2" that does secondary damage to any other size 1 or 2 model that is caught in it from the centre of that closest model...... I'm only talking about the Main gun, and not the MGs that may be part of the larger FZ.
