I can't see that its changed, but evolved. Its more flexible. Helps you visualise the character your making AND make the character you want. I feel like inspiration was drawn from MongTrav, but its still more elegant.

You choose your background, your profession & then spend Skill points. Its simple, but evocative.

The character generation system is basically the same: pick a cultural background, pick a profession and then add free skill points. The details of the backgrounds and professions have changed and you get more skill points. there is a big extra addition though: community. Basically you get to gnerate family background, relationships and life events. You are also encouraged to generate characters together in order to create connections that give skill bonuses. In theory, if you didn't want any of that gubbins and just want to go and kill some broo, then you can leave it out. I found it very useful however as it gets the players thinking abougt each others' characters early on.

One thing that's noticeable is that starting PCs are much more competent than MRQ1. You can expect characters to have a wider range of skills and to have their best skills at around 70%.

Magic system would take longer to explain in depth. Common Magic is rune magic without the runes.

Divine Magic has many of the same spells but totally re-engineered. Same with sorcery. Spirit Magic is brand new. You'll be shocked at what animists can do with an elemental. Or try a crab shaman who can always hit the head, snip off armour with any successful hit and run sideways at a rate of knots.* Basically the magic system is to MRQ1's magic system what the new mini is to the old one. It's really a very different beast designed to look like its ancestor.

*I'll let anyone who has read the chapter figure out how to do all that.

The creative used of animal spirits has brought some extremely enjoyable and interesting moments to my RQII Pavis campaign. We even have a recurring Healing Spirit in the form of a little, pipe-smoking old woman who uses her Spirit Stitching skill to sew your poor little punctured body back together.

Very useful if you're a troll Zorak Zorani who likes to go Berserk on dozens of Sun Dome Templar spear-chuckers...

I am glad that it will be easy to remove if it turns out to be what I think it might be like. My players have no problem doing this on their own and we always HATED Traveler's character generation, this sounds like it is similiar. I haven't got my book yet so will hold out hope I'm wrong until I get it.

It's just a little easily ignorable chart if you want some background inspiration.

Some days it's easy to visualize a character and how his parents were killed by broo leaving him to be raised by his overbearing sister.

Other days rolling a few numbers might help give some life to a yet lifeless character concept.

Got my book today. It is easy to ignore. This will make it an easier sell to my group.
