Character Creation Checklist

On page 5 of the original Core Rule Book there is a gray boxed area providing a Character Generation Checklist. Why was this removed from the new edition? We constantly referred to it during character creation.

The short answer is that it's been replaced by the flow chart. How effective this is makes the point of debate of course.

Personally, I always found the check list a bit too fiddly in it's details. I'd prefer about five stages incorporating relative details myself.

I keep this in my head, but it would be good to have it on a smaller checklist or flow chart:
1) Roll skill for career.
2) Roll survival.
3) Roll event.
4) Roll advancement.

I was afraid of that. I'm not at all a fan of that current flow chart. It would be nice to have both, but if the flowchart is cleaned up and made a lot easier on the eyes, it would be an acceptable alternative.

Yeah. The OCD programmer in my really doesn't like the "non standard" flow chart system used on it.

We are looking at the flow chart. We are also going to see if we can 'box out' a mini-check list on the same page spread, giving you the option.

I think one has to be really careful to make flow charts immediately and intuitively obvious, otherwise they can be self-defeating. The idea, after all, is that you sacrifice space in order to provide a faster-to-use reference than the text.

At the moment I find the text faster, so I reckon the flow chart needs re-working or possibly replacing with a simple checklist. I personally wouldn't use the space for both, just whichever one is the most effective.

Could not agree more, and one vote for the checklist as more effective: it'll allow you to recover two pages for something more essential.

The flow chart is a muddled mess. A check list is easy to understand. I gave both to a group of new players to ask if they could follow it and they couldn't follow the flow chart at all.
