Captured Ships

What do you think of an empire/race revamping a ship that has been captured for their use once it has been stripped down for and research opportunities?

Imagine
A Vorchan being used by the Earth Alliance

Vorchan-class Warship Skirmish

Speed: 12 Damage: 19/5 Craft: None
Turn: 2/45o Crew: 24/6 Special Rules: Agile, Atmospheric,
Jump Engine
Hull: 5 Troops: 1 In Service: 2160+
Weapon Range Arc AD Special
Heavy Pulse Cannons 10 F 7, Twin-Linked, AP
Laser Cannon 15 B 3 Beam

Stats-wise it's reasonably balanced.

A note or two: EA guns with AP are generally Plasma Cannon.

EA beams are generally Double Damage. You could make this one Double Damage, drop the AD to 2 and the range to 12".

Just suggestions so feel free to disagree :)

Why bother stripping an alien hull and using your own parts? This isn't like buying a captured age of sail ship into service when it's captured in battle. You've got massively different sets of electronics, sensors, controls, everything. If you strip it out to the bare hull you've probably put in more effort than simply building a new hull of your own. The R&D and Intelligence people would probably destroy the ship during testing and examinations anyway...

Still recon best use set off the distress call and pack her with explosives!

Could be useful for a specific scenario / mission where they are inlfitrating enemy space. Also Narn and a few others may use whatever they can get early on - nasty little scavengers :)

Excuse me, the Narn are not nasty little Scavangers, they are environmentally aware and recycle old parts rather than send them to landfill.

Ha - lucky for them we turned their planet into one then

Also now I am thinking of the Narn running around on Scrap heap Challenge with the lovely Ms Lisa Rogers

:D

And now all I can think of is the look on her face when G'Kar suddenly starts off on a speech about how this is all the Universe's way of helping us find ourselves...

Lol, I wasn't trying hard to be balanced I just threw numbers in.

Go ahead and ty your own. We'll balance them out as we go.
Well you made it far more balanced than the vast, vast majority of ships posted on here! :)

G'kar going on about "We are not what we seam." and "put your head in the book.." Slam

Rather than ships captured in combat, there may be more mileage in older ships sold to minor powers.

B5W had several fleets - Gaim, Balosian and the Sh'Lassens amongst others, IIRC - made up from second-hand hulls sold to them for the most part by the Centauri, Drazi and EA.

All that's needed are some well thought out stats, a cool paint jobs, and some minis...

Ah...oh well...

Come to think of it, several of the younger non-aligned races in B5W also flew captured/scavenged/reverse engineered T'Loth and Thentus - class hulls, and Gorith-inspired fighters.

These were the result of a rash of early, failed Narn invasions.

All a bit moot, now, really :( .

several "redesigned" hulls are already appearing in the Dilgar sourcebook which is being typed up ever so slowly by me :-)

we have Balosians, we have a Brakiri purchased T'Rakk, some centauri re-works etc.
