In our campaign we are using a secondary die roll to vary the points from the standard 250/500/750/1000/1500 points.
1) roll 2d6 and modify with player preference (-3 to +3) to determine basic point levels.
2) roll a d10 and apply the results to the basic points level.
d10 Modification
1 -120
2 - 90
3 - 60
4 - 30
5 0
6 0
7 + 30
8 + 60
9 + 90
10 +120
This gives less of a level effect and also a wider range of points values for battles. The idea is to encourage differnt fleet builds and new ship combinations.
We are testing it out in our campaign and will provide feedback later.
